Alas Smith & Jones - The Homemade Xmas Video - is a work of art.
Anyone watched this?

Yes! Many years ago. Thoroughly enjoyed it!
Highlights - them getting shot at while participating in the ritual of "the annual nicking of the Christmas tree ". Also, Mel's character endlessly cracking up.

Mel was a comedy genius. I'm a bit too young to recall when 'Not The Nine O'Clock News' was first broadcast but my mum used to like watching 'Alas Smith and Jones'.

It's on BBC4 Monday night (16 December) at 9.25. Following Christmas episodes of Steptoe & Son and Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads.

Blackadder's Christmas Carol is on Wednesday night.

It's been a while but this week I'm going to dig out my copy of Paul Calf's Video Diary from the early nineties.

Excellent, all three now in my TV watching schedule, ta. The WHTTLL is my top favourite special and haven't seen it for a few years; if the S&S one is the one I recall off the top of my head, then that's up there as well, and I've heard good things on here about BCC and not yet seen it. Already looking like a better than usual Xmas/pre Xmas TV line up from the Beeb.

I didn't know there was such a thing as the early nineties.

Not comedy but Nigella does Christmas.
