US election 2024 Page 41

The varied rambling, backtracking, and/or silence of various British commentators has certainly been an entertaining sight - but poor Ukraine.

Exactly.
Quite a price they'll be paying for the amusement of a few right-wing commentators.

Buy, hey ho.
The fight goes on.
Sometimes adversity produces little victories.
#MeToo, BLM, and trans issues all took great leaps forward under Trumps reign.
Abortion rights, whist curtailed in some States have been enshrined in law in others - in preperation of this worst-case scenario.
You never know, the oft-threatened tariffs might even persuade Keir to do the thing everyone wants - and push us back into the Customs Union.

He never built that stupid wall.

OK let's think about this calmly.

Firstly we can't do anything about it. Similarly Russia and China.

I'm not likening it to the obvious corruption in these countries but it does seem like the will of the people of the USA. As someone was saying on the radio there are obviously some good people in both major parties.

We all know Trump is an arrogant narcissist but we need to give him the benefit of the doubt that maybe he knows what he's doing.

I think he knows what he's doing.
Who's he doing it for, is the question?

But you're right - let's see what he actually does.
And what the people round him let him do.

But I'm still glad I'm living on the civilised side of the pond.

Just waiting for Harris to claim that the Republicans cheated and have stolen the election and that her supporters should tool up and storm the capital in an orgy of violence to stop the steal

Just waiting for Harris to claim that the Republicans cheated and have stolen the election and that her supporters should tool up and storm the capital in an orgy of violence to stop the steal

A poll reported by CNN a few weeks back found that 6% of Trump voters were prepared to take up arms if he didn't win; 8% of Democrats were prepared to do so if he did.

Only another 4 years of whining to go.

Only another 4 years of whining to go.

Think yourself lucky.
We've got five more years Tory whining.

After that election result, I need to cheer myself up with some Joy Division, Sylvia Plath and Ingmar Bergman.

We've got five more years Tory whining.

Soon enough it won't just be Tories whining.

Thank f**k that is all over

It is sweet watching the backtracking and excuses. The bookmakers had it nailed - not the polls or media, proving they mean nothing.

The polls and the bookmakers predicted a close result. That's what they got!

A poll reported by CNN a few weeks back found that 6% of Trump voters were prepared to take up arms if he didn't win; 8% of Democrats were prepared to do so if he did.

And yet, crucially they don't actually do it! The 2024 election was no more fixed than the 2020 one was. And yet there has been no denial of the result, attempted election interference or any suggestion of a violent insurrection from the Democrat side. This would not have been the same had Harris won.

So what did your Heroine Kamala, do wrong, nothing? Been nothing but constant praise on here for the well adjusted normal one

Are you kidding? Loads of pre-election criticism on here from you and others.

Only another 4 years of whining to go.

No real joy or happiness at all that your side has won. It's like Brexit all over again.

Isn't it time to stop being fixated on personality and instead focus on the issues that matter to people, like the American public themselves have just done?

Wrong! Personality matters enormously. I suspect most American voters, like you, preferred Trump's personality to Harris's. They either chose to turn a blind eye to Trump's flaws, didn't consider them flaws, didn't believe they existed, were unaware of them or thought the non-white, female, left-wing alternative looked worse.
