Alma's Not Normal Page 7

'Sitcom' has changed beyond recognition, if this prog is classed as one. It's another rambling meta dramedy with little episode shape or obvious cues for laughs imo.

Sophie Willan has been fairly open that Series 2 isn't particularly comedy and much more drama, I believe.

It shows - tad disappointed, but looking forward to seeing how it develops

Oddly I thought the first episode felt funnier and lighter than Series 1, or my memories thereof at least.

I think Sophie Willan is brilliant and so is Alma's Not Normal, but I can't help thinking it would have been much better as a 45 minute to an hour long per episode drama, because sitcom really doesn't feel right for a show that, while I do enjoy it, never makes me laugh.

I really want to enjoy this show but it's just boring

I forced myself to watch 3 episodes of Series 1 before I'd had enough

I managed three quarters of Episode 1 of Series 2

No story, no laughs .... empty show

Picking out landmarks I recognise from my home town is about the only interest I can muster

Most of the actual attempted comedy comes from laughing at the mentally ill ffs

Yeah let's take the piss out of the imbeciles in the nut house

Hilarious

Or - not for you. 3 words

This week's was absolutely brilliant! Especially at the end - when black humour is done well, as in this case it is seriously funny!! I'd loved to have been at that wake, getting slowly stewed.

Sophie Willan is a "success"
The only actress who did so by going from a bit part on a sitcom that everyone watched (Still Open All Hours avg 8 million)
To starring in Alma's Not Normal (less than 2 million avg)

Won't bother with an even heavier dramedy S2

Sloped off a bit, but stuck with it as it picked up at the end, and Siobhan Finneran as Lin her mother was superb!

Very good final episode

But there are different measures of success, for instance Alma's Not Normal won a Bafta for best scripted comedy whereas Still Open All Hours I don't think did, for any of its several series. Generally newer projects with modern day themes will not attract audiences as large as the older golden age sitcoms or their sequels.

I have to be honest I've fully watched two episodes and viewed the odd clip of others and I think she's a much better actor than sitcom/dramedy writer, as it's all a bit too unstructured for me, and the excuse that it's supposed to be because it's about a chaotic life doesn't quite convince me. It's a bit drifty.

I love Siobhan and Lorraine. I've seen loads of things they've been in together.
