My Dad wrote one every year but this 1939 one was like a desk diary with much more info.
I envy you that Dave, you lucky devil

My father-in-law also kept his RAF war diaries but would not let me see them or speak about what happened.
Until one night, after we had a good few beers and whiskey in the local RAFA club, he told me about his fateful last flight.
It was reported in the London Gazette but was just a short summary.
He thrilled and frightened me in equal measure as he told me about flying through flak and tracers coming from the ground below.
The king gave him his medal at Buckingham Palace.

My Dad was also a radio operator in the RAF but never flew.
My Dad has an oak leaf on one of his medals, (Mentioned in Despatches), which is some sort of bravery and it was entered in the London Gazette
Nothing to do with the above! But this is the Wapiti he was in when it did a nose dive on landing in North Africa
I was Monty's double
I saw the Neasden Queen of Soul, Mari Wilson in a small venue in Sutton.
Before she started she made a request that nobody take any photos or films. She said they'd do photos after the show.
Well done Mari. Too many shows are spoilt by selfish bastards holding their bloody phones up and filming shows.
Good God, is she still about, with her 60s beehive - good singer though

No beehive now but yes, a good singer. She's been covering Cilla, Sandie, Pet and others' songs as well as her own.
AGA lit.
That's me hodding coal for 6 months
Stay off the drink.

On first reading, your post made no sense.
Your 'green credentials are going up the swanny too.

Not a lot of choice, to be honest.
The things been there since the 1950's, so it's paid it's dues, and would cost about £10k to replace (and they're very 'un-green to manufacture).
And even then it would have to run on oil, which is less efficient, so less 'green'.
Cooks a lovely roast, mind you.
We had an oil fired Rayburn many years ago, and yes the Sunday roast was absolutely superb
I'm staying on BST for a few more days. I have a hospital appointment at 8.15 on Wednesday and thought I'd be more likely to make it if my body thought it was 9.15.
