Beetlejuice Beetlejuice

I was lucky enough to see the long-awaited comedy horror sequel over the weekend and absolutely loved it.

I've a couple of small niggles that I suspect are due to scenes having been cut, but it really was wonderful. Very funny throughout, a total joy.

I think I actually prefer it to the original film. Strongly recommend.

Plus, it was almost entirety filmed in England, so do support our home industries!

Great. I look forward to seeing it.

I loved it too. The most Tim Burton film Tim Burton has made in years, lovely to see Winona Ryder back in a leading role, Catherine O'Hara is hilarious and Keaton slips seamlessly back into Beetlejuice.

I've never seen the original. Do you need that and is it a typically "American comedy"?

You don't need to but the first film is great so I'd recommend it.

I can't really answer your second question as it implies American comedy is so.how bad, which it isn't. Beetlejuice is funny mainly due to Michael Keaton's manic performance.

It isn't really a typical anything.

You'd get a lot more from the second with knowledge of the first, too.

I'll probably give it a watch, although I hope Beetlejuice Beetlejuice doesn't rely too much on references and in-jokes from the original film. There seems to be a lot of these sequels to 80s films now, and they rely a lot on the nostalgia angle, with the same characters repeating key phrases they said in the original film, so fans all go "ah!!" In the case of the new Beverly Hills Cop film, it was too much and it didn't quite work. But having said that, I really like Cobra Kai (the Netflix series which follows on from the Karate Kid films), which got the balance just right between lots of nostalgia/in-jokes for the fans, but doing it in a clever way - and also coming up with completely new characters etc. as well to keep it fresh and appealing to a new audience.

It doesn't in the slightest.

Well, thats all very encouraging.
Might pop out and see it.
The original is a classic.
