It might possibly cost them more than they save.
There is a flood of pensioners applying for pension credit that they didn't before due to arduous means testing.
They just got by and the winter fuel allowance helped with that.
I read the news today oh boy! Page 2,834
The government have overtly said that they want this to happen.
Those who need the Pension Credits etc should get them.
A bit like those who owe tax should pay it.
It's called 'fairness'.
"A millionaire I know has a tradition every year: he buys a bottle of vintage wine with his Winter Fuel Payment and invites friends to drink it. His point is that it's ludicrous that people like him are given handouts by the government - and today, finally, Rachel Reeves is doing something about it by cutting it for those not on benefits, saving the taxpayer some £1.5 billion a year.
Gordon Brown brought in this payment when it was taken for granted that pensioners were significantly poorer than people of working age. Pensions were linked to inflation - there was no triple lock. Over the past 25 years pensioners have become steadily healthier and wealthier: they work (much) more. QE then fuelled an asset boom whereby property prices surged to the extent where 27 per cent of pensioners became millionaires (or lived in households headed by a millionaire). "
27 per cent of pensioners are millionaires (Office for National Statistics).
"As Andrew and Tristan Tate are held on suspicion of rape and trafficking children, let's not forget who has supported, defended, admired and even been funded by them in recent months. Yes, Nigel Farage, Tommy Robinson and George Galloway "
I'm glad the Notting Hill carnival was 'mostly peaceful.
Only 3 stabbings and 90 arrests and 15 police injured.
Only 18 arrested with knives and 10 emergency workers assaulted.
No need to fast-track these mostly peaceful people to jail.
To be fair, there were over a million people there.
That's the equivalent of about 27 Premiership football crowds.
Haha 'to be fair.....
You lefties will defend even murder attempts, violence and knives if it's your kind of people.
Tell it to the stabbed woman on life support in hospital.
Haha 'to be fair.....

But shout and swear at police in an England top as a 67 year old in the middle of anti immigration riots and you'll get two years in jail.

My kind of people?
You don't half talk some shit.
Learn to read.
I'm not defending anything.
When you get a million people together you're going to get a certain proportion of c***s.
It's not like I was defending rioters setting fire to hotels, or anything.

Give em a chance, it's still got another day to do.

'Riots" is the clue there, Alf.
Stabbing and knives ok though
I don't recall anyone killed or stabbed in the 'riots
Stabbing is wrong.
Rioting is wrong.
Which bit don't you understand?
I don't understand 'to be fair.
Implying it's ok because there were a lot of people.
You can talk down to me all you like and be as pompous as you want
Your first instinct was to excuse it.
There is ALWAYS trouble at this so-called Carnival and it's always defended. It needs to be banned.
