Even crazier, if the replay had been a draw, it would have gone to the toss of a coin. As did the 1968 Euros (as it wasn't called then) semi-final between USSR & Italy.

Watched it through for possibly the first time in colour and made notes of the obvious changes to today's game - No subs, no yellow/red cards (Nobby Styles would've been sent off and banned for a scything two footed hacking down of a German), no TV replays (very annoying) but also no diving, no rolling around on the floor after getting fouled, no obvious time wasting, and not many free kicks considering how physical the game was.
Very clear to me that Greaves would have cleaned up in front of goal unless he was fouled to death, but alas we'll never know. Instead we got a game of endurance running and hopeful shooting.
None of them wore pink boots
