When I was working for HJ Heinz in the late 60s, he developed the freeze-drying process with Heinz, their first product being peas, which were the simplest for that process - I remember it well!! Erin peas in a packet - just add hot water.

So basically, he then joined the company as MD of the UK operation, being so successful he got the call from the US parent company in Pittsburgh, eventually becoming the Chairman of Heinz in 1987 - the first non-family member to hold that post.

Was also a successful Irish rugby player, who has died age 88.

He was also VERY, VERY, VERY rich.

Sorry Herc. I'm confused!

Who are you taking about? Erin peas? Who joined as the first non-family MD?

Herc doing his Abe Simpson impression again

Frank Ifield, 86. I remember him.

One of his children went to the same school as mine in Harpenden, and I met him a couple of times.

What did he 'taught you?

"Rugby league legend Rob Burrow dies aged 41"

Rest In Peace - what a tragic story of how a perfectly fit man can deteriorate over such a relatively short period.

I never follow rugby, but seeing him at his peak when he was playing and how he finished up is heart breaking.

I think we only know he directed Keeping up appearances because of the way the credits are shown. Generally you wouldn't really notice.

She was thick as 2 short planks though. I only ever remember seeing her in things like Blankety Blank.
