RIP too He was the best Ali G impersonator, ever. He was also fab in Lead Balloon as the bloke Rick buys a Dualit toaster off of (the one that Michael the cafe owner thinks is a gift and accepts in lieu of stolen tea spoons ...) The story in The Daily Mail (sorry!) said that he'd been in care home for a while, so he was clearly fairly ill for the last couple of years. He's only two or so years older than me, so very much a contemporary.

I hadn't seen that one - what a shame. What an actor he was too. He was also the King in the original unbroadcast Blackadder pilot. I used to love watching Corrie back in the day, well, before it got all silly and Dev had about thirty children by various employees throughout his sweet shop empire. Jumbo from Yes, Minister was fantastic in the sleeper train scene. I have the Yes, Minister/Yes, Prime Minister DVD box sets too, so I'll give it a watch.

His death was incredibly sad, especially as he was only in his late sixties (my late husband was sixty-three, so a similar generation). I didn't listen to any of his shows prior his short stint as host of Radio 2's "Pick of the Pops" which he recently took over from Gambo. He did make the show his own in a very short space of time.

I loved Glenn Ponder and the way in which he and his band defied Partridge in KMKYWAP. Mr B was also the musical director for so many comedies and if my aspie brain serves me right, he was involved in Harry Hill's less than great X factor musical? Wasn't Steve Brown once married to Jan Ravens and their son is a stand-up? I recall my then-choir director, a musically-based stand-up herself, moaning about nepotism.
