Best Ever Christmas Movie...? Page 11

Christmas hasn't officially started until Muppets' Christmas Carol. I've never made eggnog before so this year I'm going to get totally eggnogged while watching Muppets and Clarke Griswold.

Scrooged is a tough one because I like it but only for the cast. It can be dark and some scenes are like watching Creepshow. Carol Kane would cry on set because of how violent her character had to be. She plays the part brilliantly but it was over the top and doesn't sound like the director was very receptive.

I just watched It's A Wonderful Life and wanted to hear the audience reactions from when it was first shown in cinemas which would be a good extra feature on a DVD. Like commentary that can be turned on/off and captures all the laughter and gasps from movie goers of the time.

I expect we'll be watching Die Hard at some point.
My wife fancies a lot of the baddies.

Have Alistair Sim's "A Christmas Carol" (aka Scrooge) lined up on the digi-box ready for Christmas Day - love it.

Also has one of my other favourite actors in it - Mervyn Johns as Bob Cratchit, with Michael Hordern, Kathleen Harrison, Hermione Baddeley, Jack Warner, George Cole, Miles Malleson etc., and the people (Yanks) who colourised it want taking out and shooting, as it spoils the entire mood of the film - morons!

Wasn't it met with indifference when it was first released? And only gained it's classic reputation after getting shown every year at Christmas.

A sort of ironic Christmas tradition in our house.
Our girls (now 25) used to have this on a loop from the 1st December onwards when they were little - followed by our two boys.
Now we all have to watch it at some stage om Christmas Eve.

I like A Christmas Carol with Jim Kerry. This is the best version for me.
Also, we always watch Home Alone, Christmas Vacation, The Holiday, and Daddy's Home 2.

Agreed. Jimmy Stuart, the King of Hollywood at the time, never once had an affair and sustained one of the longest marriages of any Hollywood great. He was considered an all round nice guy, bit like the characters he mostly played. His movie Harvey (1950), about an imaginary 6ft rabbit, is excellent btw.

He had at least one affair with a married woman. He was also a staunchly conservative Republican. ;)

Nobody's perfect. ;)

He wasn't married at the time he "dated" Marlene Dietrich, so he couldn't have cheated on his wife. The press was speculating that he was gay at the time, so this could be more speculation rather than titillation.
