Oppenheimer
Best film I've seen for ages.
Took a good 15 mins to get over the impact.

Or maybe a bit longer for the Japs.

Reminds me of the old joke :

Famous last words - the Mayor of Hiroshima

"What the f**k was that?"

Avatar: The Way of Water (2022)

My son downloaded this for me (God knows where he gets them from), and at over 3 hours long, you need some staying power, but having said that it did go quickly as the film was imo, a good 'un.

Bit more complicated than the original, and you can see the advances in cgi, which were stunning!! And all the actors did their own stunts under water, including Kate Winslet who apparently could hold her breath for 7 minutes!!

8/10 - 2 knocked off for too long, but see it if you can!!

I thought Kate Winslet said she would never do a film with water again after Titanic but maybe I'm confusing her with someone else. I struggle with films these days and always lose interest around the 58 minute mark and turn it off to watch something else. The only exceptions are a few of my favourite films like Contact and The Day After Tomorrow but everything else is usually viewed over a few days which spoils the buildup.

Be wary of counterfeit movies because aside from the obvious moral issue of being complicit in theft it could contain all kinds of malware. Next time you watch one remember they are produced and distributed by criminal enterprise to subsidise drug trafficking operations and the websites that host them for download are probably heavily involved in the dark web. With streaming services and places like amazon and CEX it's safer and better for the environment to pay for a movie and no chance of the FBI sneaking up on you and shooting you in the back of the head.

1/. I think you maybe correct about Kate Winslet, but you know the old story - if there's enough money in it, they'd sell their own granny, and agree with you about "Contact" - very good film, and easily one I could watch again and never tire of.

2/. "........ and no chance of the FBI sneaking up on you and shooting you in the back of the head" See fasty's link 😊

Also, my son does a full check on anything he downloads and we both have high security on our computers. The "Avatar: The Way of Water" film is £5 to rent or £25 to buy on Amazon and my son's copy cost absolutely nothing - zilch - nil - zero, so there is no way I am financing anyone, illegal or otherwise, and the moral issue doesn't bother me in the slightest, when I read about how much money all concerned in the making of a film such as this get out of it financially.

If you had a choice of a fiver cost or nothing, what would you go for - no, don't answer that, as I think I know what your answer would be. 😉

So in effect you've stolen it.

Cor! It's a fair cop, but don't grass me up guv.............

The honest people on this forum is a wonder to behold

Can't remember the title but there was a TV panel/audience participation show a while back hosted by Victoria Coren. The question of the morality of downloading films/software etc. off the net came up.

Chap in the audience stuck his hand up "I don't consider it stealing because after I've downloaded it, it's still there"

Vicky virtually conceded him the point :)

I don't know what's worse, watching pirated movies or happily admitting to it with the reasoning that the studio fat cats have enough money :D It's a criminal offence which hits the pocket of the film crew and extras more than anyone so I would rather pay £5 to rent a movie than steal it. Stealing food is one thing but stealing something for pleasure makes no sense to me. I've been offered copies of Cubase before which is music software that costs £400+ but I didn't because I couldn't face being reminded I tea leafed it every time it loads up. Not only that but the software needs to be registered to qualify for technical support and updates so if I was going to use it I would save up and obtain it the right/legal way. I don't think anyone would boast about obtaining a hooky copy of an OFAH boxset and I don't see how a movie is any different. We have a choice and in the wise words of Judge Judy...."If you eat the steak....."

I bloody love watching pirate videos me
