In the late 60's my first job was working in the purchasing office at Rolls-Royce for stationery, tools, general supplies. The lady in charge of the female welfare department (well before HR) was a woman who insisted on being called Miss Fearn.
Whenever she sent a requisition through to re-stock the machines in the Ladies my gaffer would pass it on to me as we had to phone it through to the supplier - 'Here you go lad, another order for Florrie Fearns' manhole covers'

Strange though. Why are they called sarnies? They're not Sarndwiches so Sannies makes more sense.
