I read the news today oh boy! Page 2,635

Asylum seekers were placed on the Bibby Stockholm barge at Portland Port the day after the Home Office was told about the discovery of initial results indicating that the Legionella bacteria was present, it is understood.

The revelation comes after all 39 of those on board were removed on Friday and placed in alternative accommodation.

Samples from the water system showed levels of Legionella bacteria, the Home Office said. This bacteria can cause a serious type of pneumonia (lung infection) called Legionnaires' disease.

All 39 - who only arrived this week beginning on Monday - were being taken off as a precaution.

It is understood Dorset Council told department officials on Wednesday evening about the discovery of initial results indicating that the bacteria was present, but the transfer of a further six migrants on to the barge still went ahead on Thursday.

Why do you consider that the illegal boat entries to claim asylum have anything at all to do with Brexit?

They arise mostly due to unrest or war in countries that are not in Europe and would be happening whether or not Brexit had occurred.

Your inbuilt philosophy/bias seems to be: "Ah that's bad it must be due to Brexit"

Personally I think that perhaps, since the treaty does not allow asylum-seekers to work, the physically fit ones should be housed it tents and provided with the materials (and supervision) to build housing for asylum-seekers (i.e that building own housing should be exempt from the "no-working" rule). There's no obligation as far as I know to house them in hotels, so they should be grateful for anything which is better than their original-country housing or the tents or hovels they probably lived in during their travels to the UK.

Sadly you've missed the entire point of my post.
Steve wanted those of us supporting migrants entering the country to shoulder the bill, via increased taxation.
I suggested this would be acceptable as long as those who supported Brexit shouldered that particular bill.
Which would, of course, far outweigh the cost of housing migrants.
I actually think both ideas are daft, and was using my suggestion to point out the stupidity of Stephen's.

But you are right, Brexit has no relevance to immigration numbers - as has been very effectively proven.
For many Brexit-voters this has been the cause of much disappointment, as they were under the impression it would.

Hence the tories currently polling horrifically badly in the red wall constituencies ...

The former idea is valid as we haven't been consulted on this, so if you and others want them here, you pay for their upkeep. The latter idea isn't valid because we were consulted on it via an electoral referendum and the Leave vote won. That's it, that's democracy in action, the Leave voters owe nothing for its current economic losses, much of which are exacerbated by a war caused by the alleged encroachment of the eastern expansion of the EU.
If it fails because so many people here and abroad want it to, then we must put up with it, atleast until mounting pressure from said opposers forces a reversal of the vote through another referendum. Then if the rejoiners win, you put up with the continued economic decline caused by the lot who lost the vote.

I take it then that you haven't had a DNA test to show which migration let your ancestors into what is now the UK.

Actually the UK problem with small boats & their sinking seems quite trivial compared with that of Italy and the loss of life of desperate immigrants trying to cross the Mediterranean in small boats.
