British Comedy Quiz Page 49

4/10 and 1/5 for me, a new record low, but then again not unexpected. Great to see your legendary quiz at last Herc :)

I managed to get 2, 7, 9-11 correct. The only ones I knew were 9 & 10, the others were complete guesses.

Thank you everyone for your appreciation, though the quiz was not how I laid it out, as Mark is on holiday and Aaron thought he'd "improve" it, leaving me not a very happy bunny, and thinking over whether to bother to do any more quizzes.

Herc, your quizzes are always fantastic, don't give in, dont give up.

Thank you, and as you are clearly a mega Sellers fan like me, I have PMd you Questions 11 to 15 - enjoy!

I'm still mulling over the situation, but I had a gut feeling something like this would happen if Mark went on holiday.

Seconded :)

It's disappeared off the site.

That's why I'm late doing it, couldn't get it up at all. I first thought Lynne Frederick had blocked it, demanding payment then remembered she isn't around anymore. Finally quizzed and got a decent 9/10, not quite as good as uber fan JJ.

More personal life Qs than professional life ones I thought, especially for a man with such a large body of work, but then he did have quite a colourful and idiosyncratic life. An interesting quiz of a fascinating man. I'll get round to getting the bonus five soon.

Well Alf, I thought I'd done a good mix, as I always try to do, and even limited it to one Goon Show question, which is amazing for me, being a total Goons nut.
So, taking your criticism on board, I've done a tally, and it's 6 Personal, 6 Films, and one each of TV, Audio recording and Radio, which is not "More" personal questions - actually 6 personal and 9 others. I'm teetering on the edge of chucking this malarkey in, after this experience with Aaron being the editor, so it won't take much for me to say f**k it, especially...............no, I won't expand on that, but Stephen Goodlad will know what I mean.

If you want the other 5 questions, I can PM them to you, as I did for a very appreciative JJ.

Not criticism no, just observation from my usually analitical mind, I was ofcourse expecting one or two, but possibly not that number in the first ten. (But then I don't know how your submitted line up was changed. Mine are always changed a bit, but that's because they have to factor in captions and photos and things in an unbunched up way.) You could easily have several separate quizzes each for his life and his work, there's so much material on him. As you say that one biography ran to over a thousand pages. So in a way you still need to campaign to get another half dozen quizzes done on him. That'll keep Nikki's scores down. 🙂

And a very nice thing to do. I'll let you know for me, as I do intend to get my subscription renewed when I get a mo, cheers.

It was nothing to do with change of order, as Mark quite often does that, which is fine with me - it's when your questions, which have been honed and re-written by you, are then re-written, and THAT is what I object to.

No, stuff the quiz - I am effin' livid.

I enjoyed the Peter Sellers quiz. And the ensuing fury over the question editing. Why not take a leaf out of the Giles Coren book of rants? https://www.theguardian.com/media/2008/jul/23/mediamonkey

For what it's worth, the questions did not appear to have been composed by a retarded spaniel using a broken keyboard in the dark. Only 1 and 3 were a whisker ropey.

As for venting the spleen in public, surely it would be more satisfying to submit your next quiz with a carefully hidden acrostic, so the questions go like:
1. From 1960 to 1974, Sid James appeared in 19 Carry On films. Name Charles Hawtrey's cat.
2. Upstart Crow is about William Shakespeare, but which British sitcom, banned in Malaysia, is about Prince William?
3. Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver was once sucked off by Ant and Dec disguised as cheap prostitutes behind a McDonald's as part of a prank show: True or false?
4. Keeping Up Appearances was remade in the USA under what palindromic title?
5. Until his death in 2002, which three horses did arch-goon Spike Milligan repeatedly back in the British Grand Prix?
6. Although his best known shows were The Office and Extras, which cartoon character did Ricky Gervais infamously rape in a recorded appearance on the Camilla Parker-Bowles House-Flipping Hour?
7. After a few years as Doctor Who, in which sitcom did Julian Clary appear as a jockey who inherits a Swedish glue factory?
8. Running for 4 episodes over 400 years, in which radio series did Benedict Cumberbatch become the first person to say "nips" on the BBC?
9. Only three people were allowed in Harry Secombe's dressing room backstage at the Goon Show, but which cast member of Diff'rent Strokes was chained to a wall in Jimmy Carr's dressing room at the Rolf Harris Memorial Brothel?
10. Not the Nine O'Clock News was originally conceived as a starring vehicle for a young Adam Hills, but which Australian comedian once kicked Rowan Atkinson off the Sydney Harbour Bridge?

Bonus Questions
11. Usually it takes how many days to film an episode of Peppa Pig?
12. Coming after his long stint as Tucker on Grange Hill, Todd Carty famously dated which cast member of Tucker Carlson Tonight on Fox News?
13. Ursula Andress undressed in the Peter Sellers version of Casino Royale, but which James Bond actor was fired for masturbating with an electric cheese-grater on Parkinson?
14. Name the first three wives of Bradley Walsh.
15. Tonic water was the preferred tipple of which Irish comedian who was banned from Sainsbury's for stealing a six-pack of robot sex slave dogs?

See? Every question-setter needs an editor, ideally a competent one.

😄 Never thought I'd find myself saying this to you of all people, Kenneth, but thank you - I like Giles Coren and his article is superb in summing up how I feel.

I just hope Aaron reads it.

😂 Kurt Vonnegut roll over. (He famously punched his editor's lights out over his editing of a mere short story) Aaron's stirred up one of the thorniest rivalries in publishing, author v editor. This should go up in the PRO section for budding writers, How not to get your scripts commissioned. In Aaron's defence, he is an editor by trade, and we all know here how punctilious he is at his daily job (another p word is often used by others).

(Whereas Mark is a computer programmer, or something of that ilk, I think.) ((A completely different beast.))

Actually this would be very handy Herc, as I'd like to see how I fare with the other 5 sometime this year, (a dig at my own snail pace in doing things) if it's not too much of a task, then yes please, thanks very much.
