So half of them haven't claimed asylum in France, we got there. And the question we right wingers always ask is why not? as that's the country they are legally obliged to claim asylum in.
The answer we believe, and I've even seen and heard it on TV from the immigrants themselves is because, and I quote one "Britain gives us a home and a job. In France there's nothing for us here".
Half of who? I think you're confused.
About a million people applied for asylum in the EU last year.
A quarter of them end up in Germany.
156,000 in France, Spain 117,000, 84,000 Italy etc etc.
75,000 (approx) make their way to the French coast in the hope of claiming asylum in the UK.
About 50 thousand of them are granted asylum.
Often as not they have some sort of connection - be it family, language or they saw a nice picture on a biscuit tin.
And, despite 13 years of Tory govt, the UK is still a great country - so it's understandable a proportion - 7.5% - might head for here
We make that as dfficult as possible - despite International obligations - by not offering Safe Routes and stirring up hate.
And, no they are not obliged to seek asylum in the first safe country they enter, otherwise Greece would be full and they'd run out of taramasalata.
It's complete myth, regularly spouted.
And clearly your second point is nonsense, as twice as many people settle in France as come here - so there's obviously is "something" for some of them in France.
