I read the news today oh boy! Page 2,593

People like Dorries and Reece-Smug keep banging on about how the tories were only about 4% behind in the polls before BJ resigned

Firstly I think it was definitely more than that but what they don't say is that BJ's personal opinion polling rating amongst the public was MINUS 53%

"On the day he has announced plans to step down as prime minister, new YouGov data reveals that Boris Johnson's net favourability has fallen to its lowest level to date, at -53. Just 19% of the public have a favourable view of the outgoing PM, with 72% having an unfavourable view."

MINUS FIFTY THREE ! 🤣

Nearly as unpopular as Corbyn

I say get the tub of lard back as PM

I can understand Doris having the hump - she was on a promise and BoJo didn't deliver.
Don't know what Sir Jacob Rees-Mogg's moaning about.
At least he finally got his Brexit Benefit.

So, tell me (I genuinely have often wondered). How do they calculate a minus favourability rating?

A % figure of anything from 0% to 100% I could understand. But a minus figure? And it's not minus 53% is it (which would be perplexing enough); it's just minus 53.

How does 19% favourable and 78% unfavourable equate to minus 53?

He's not rite brite wiv maffs.

I'll think you'll find it's YouGov's 'maffs' , not mine

Started and owned by Nadhim Zahawi, leading Tory, if I'm not mistaken.

Yes that's quite right

He also held shares in Yougov in an offshore fund saving him about £3m In taxes he should have paid in this country

Fun idea for a game - pick a subject and see which Tory is somehow linked to it via some dodgy sleazy corrupt immoral self serving dealings

It's surprisingly incredibly easy to play!

So nobody knows then.

Not a clue 🧐

I think it just means that his approval rating is 53% down.

A few of these things sound like present government policy anyway. They are just terrible at implementing them.

Well, of course that's the point. Any government can promise things that they think will appeal to their core voters. It's whether or not they actually believe in them and whether they really want to do anything about them that is the telling factor.

Renationalising utilities definitely isn't a right-wing thing.

Yes, I thought long and hard before including that one and that would certainly be the accepted view, yes. But I don't think that it was ever the utopian ideal of privatisation that the de-nationalised companies would end up in foreign hands with profits going to foreign countries and foreign individuals with the danger of being held to ransom in the event of a breakdown in relations (think Russia). So I figure that the desire to get these companies back under British control before it's too late should be an admirable right-wing cause.

Assume you generally oppose foreign aid, equality and environmental legislation?

Not necessarily oppose per sé, which is why I said review; not abolition.

I'm thinking nonsensical cases such as when a Christian street preacher is told he cannot preach because there has been a complaint or when six policemen turn up to investigate a complaint of a collection of gollies*. I'm thinking of official forms that require you to select your gender from a choice of 18.

(*Spellchecker wanted to change that to a collection of goalies!)

I'm thinking of the requirement to satisfy a foreign aid quota rather than sending it when and where it is needed.

I'm thinking the unacceptable tolerance by the authorities of protestors, targets brought in merely to appease activists, which we know are unattainable, and the promotion of electric cars when we know a) they're useless and b) they are no more environmentally friendly than ordinary cars (think the advocacy of diesel engines 25 years ago) and the acceptance of e-scooters when we all know how lethal they are going to turn out to be.

The government wants to continually highlight one issue at the moment over pretty much every other - even though in the grand scheme of things it's quite a small issue - "stopping the small boats"

Schapps even brought it up yesterday when questionEd about Boris Johnson. They've obviously been briefed to bring it up at every possible chance

Despite this, they are failing miserably at doing anything about it! Over 600 came across yesterday alone...

"Migrant crossings hit new daily record for the year: 616 people made journey across English Channel in 12 small boats on Sunday - as 2023 total hits 8,380 "

Berlusconi's gone and with him half my act. Even when he's dead, he's pissing me off.

Apparently on Wednesday we will learn that BJ was to be suspended for 20 days , due to the mass conflagration in his pants - no wonder he has slung his toys out of the pram and ran off

"That's, that's enough music for now lads, there's dirty work afoot."
Brave Sir Boris ran away.
("No!")
Bravely ran away away.
("I didn't!")
When danger reared it's ugly head,
He bravely turned his tail and fled.
("I never!")
Yes, brave Sir Boris turned about
And gallantly he chickened out.
("You're lying!")
Swiftly taking to his feet,
He beat a very brave retreat.
Bravest of the brave, Sir Boris

I'm sure you can do a good impression of him now.
