I love, love, love it!
And you're right Catskillz, nothing beats the moment when you realise you've constructed a comedy gold nugget.
It's the selling bit that I dislike... no matter how positive you try to be, rejections are demoralizing.

I believe it's called smugness!
I like writing first drafts; a first draft never seems like work.
Fixing the first draft so that it works, however, is a chore. And writing treatments and episode outlines is like torture.
I imagine I'd always prefer writing to being on a golf course, though. What is it about rich people and golf? Seems like once you're in a certain tax bracket you have to own a set of clubs.
And once you're a member of a golf club you have to own a certain car...

Speaking as a professional writer (albeit in a totally unrelated field), I can concur with the above. I never wanted to be a writer, but people pay me up to £350 a day to do it (I freelance in the evil world of advertising), so I'm hooked on earning the folding stuff. If I could read and write music, I'd never again write a single thing - not even a greetings card.
It is hard work, having to be creative at 9am every day. And yes, we in advertising get writers' block, too. Mind you, that has a lot to do with the poor standards of the briefs. But occasionally, it has its rewards. I've picked up a few gongs for my efforts, and even slipped some funnies into ads from time to time. But all that fades when you're faced with a four-month stint writing a law firm's website.
Were you involved with the new Sugar Puffs ad at all?...

No. I don't do much TV. More print, press and BTL. I've done a couple of TV ads, though ... had Patrick Stewart in them. It was course marketing for Huddersfield Uni. He was Chancellor there. Got to meet him, take him through the script I wrote for him, rewrite the bit he didn't like - I even directed him when I pointed out to the actual director that Patrick needed to pause a little because we were coming in under time in every take. He took it like a pro, did as I asked, and bingo, job done. It was a single-take ad, so we had to get it perfect - there was no question of editing later. Took 27 takes.

Which is ironic, because I have to keep things short at work.
