Watched "Sir Francis Drake" from the early 60s, which I'd never heard of and was curious.
Not bad, and just about recognised a 20 year old Michael Crawford playing the cabin-boy.
What is it about English Comedy films? I started watching the Wimbledon Poisoner. Brilliant cast but I just gave up halfway through. Just not funny enough.
I watched The Wimbeldon Poisoner too, indeed brillant cast, very dark humour, the last ten minutes were histercally funny.

Help is at hand. This week on Talking Pictures are: Dry Rot (14.45 Monday) with Brian Rix, Peggy Mount & Sid James and Sailor Beware (14.10 Thurs) with Peggy Mount & Esma Cannon. While Film4 on Tuesday (14.50) has The Man in the White Suit.
And, on the (off) topic of Film4, The Holly and the Ivy is well worth watching on Wednesday at 13.10. Not a comedy but a good seasonal offering with Ralph Richardson, Celia Johnson, Denholm Elliott, John Gregson, William Hartnell & Dandy Nichols amongst others.
The infamous Confessions of .... films are being shown every Saturday until the new year on Talking Pictures TV.
Starting of course with Confessions of a Window Cleaner the first in the series which was on last week, from 1974.
This week Confessions of a Pop Perfomer at 11:35PM.

A lovely film I remember watching with my parents.
Apple TV have it for rent - might give it a go nearer the festivities.

Bought this on DVD (eBay S/H thank heavens) and it appears on TPTV (Grrrrr).
Delightful film with wonderful actors in it, and as somebody on the IMDb put it "Christmas movie for people who don't like Christmas movies", which just about sums it up, with odd bit of gentle humour too.
Main characters played by Ralph Richardson, Celia Johnson, Margaret Leighton and Denholm Elliott with a brief appearance of John Gregson, and very brief showing from William Hartnell and Dandy Nichols.
I did mainly watch this for Celia Johnson whose biog. I'm still reading as I wanted to see how her acting compared with "Brief Encounter", which is one of my all-time favourite films.
Also notice that her daughter Lucy Fleming (niece of the famous Ian) is in an ITV film of "Uncle Silas" on TPTV this week, it being from the late 60s series of Gothic horror/suspense "Mystery and Imagination" - Wed. 12.05 AM.
Is this a new trend on TPTV to show the odd TV drama? If so, it is most welcome.EDIT - Just noticed that Dudley Sutton is in it, if you're a fan of his.

Last night I watched Bloodbath at the house of Death on the wonderful Talking Pictures TV the best channel on tv, the film starred Kenny Everett, Pamela Stephenson and Vincent Price, such a crazy film.
I'm currently watching Doctor In Love, from 1960 starring the late, great Leslie Phillips on Talking Pictures TV.
Myself and my beloved spouse are currently enjoying Edward Woodward's 'In Suspicious Circumstances'. I recall watching it during the early 1990s on Friday nights when everyone else was out socialising.
Tomorrow at 12:35PM on TPTV is "And The Same To You" starring William Hartnell, Sid James and Tommy Cooper, and many others.
