Quote: Billy Bunter @ 18th November 2022, 9:45 AMAnd therein lies a problem. Kids used to be able to have their own interests to lead a separate life from the adults that were there to "control" them. Their own music, fashions, games, films, fantasies, cartoons, causing general mayhem & rebellion...
Now the lines have been well and truly blurred and adults have encroached into all of those areas, even as far as riding pedal scooters down the road for goodness sake, leaving kids no separate interests or causes, nothing to rebel against. No wonder they are suffering from disproportionate mental health problems. They are no longer allowed to live their own lives away from unwanted adult infiltration.
I get your point, but... When I was a kid, things like The Magic round about and Alice in Wonderland were family viewing. Written on two levels. But Catholic Priests, Drs and Children's entertainers also worked on two levels. Pro's and Con's to everything. The mental health issues we see prolificate were hidden in the old days. "Shell Shock" is now known to be PTSD. "Hysterical" housewives on Valium now get much better treatment. When homosexuality was illegal, I'm guessing it was less visible and considered less of a mental health issue. We now know it's not an issue, that's progress.
