Which is the best 90s cartoons ever? Page 3

And therein lies a problem. Kids used to be able to have their own interests to lead a separate life from the adults that were there to "control" them. Their own music, fashions, games, films, fantasies, cartoons, causing general mayhem & rebellion...

Now the lines have been well and truly blurred and adults have encroached into all of those areas, even as far as riding pedal scooters down the road for goodness sake, leaving kids no separate interests or causes, nothing to rebel against. No wonder they are suffering from disproportionate mental health problems. They are no longer allowed to live their own lives away from unwanted adult infiltration.

I get your point, but... When I was a kid, things like The Magic round about and Alice in Wonderland were family viewing. Written on two levels. But Catholic Priests, Drs and Children's entertainers also worked on two levels. Pro's and Con's to everything. The mental health issues we see prolificate were hidden in the old days. "Shell Shock" is now known to be PTSD. "Hysterical" housewives on Valium now get much better treatment. When homosexuality was illegal, I'm guessing it was less visible and considered less of a mental health issue. We now know it's not an issue, that's progress.

Family viewing, yes. But not watched solely by adults.

Well, there have always been cartoons intended for adults when it comes to the non-animated kind - Viz comic, for instance, or the risque cartoons/postcards that Hercules sometimes posts on the forum. I think that kind of tradition has gone on for a long time, and they simply co-exist with The Beano etc. which are intended for kids, each with their difference audience. So I don't see why it shouldn't be the same with 'moving' cartoons/animation as well.

In other news, I've just remembered a porn cartoon I saw in the early 70s - don't remember the title, but it was Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs and a lot of bonking.

Is there a difference between 'cartoons' and 'animation'?
Because I would include the work of Studio Ghibli.

I've learnt a lesson, and they're still about - one of my grandchildren wants a Studio Ghibli - Totoro - Lunch Bag for Christmas ?
