Had an email from the league titled "How many points on your bench?" Talk about rubbing it in!

That's harsh.

It's great when the game itself goads you! Well done on your points haul Godot.

Thanks Anton. Everything goads me, I'm Godot.

Just a note to say that I haven't forgotten about the manager of the month - Unfortunately the link to the imaging server and images have been permanently lost with my computer going down, hence the delay. I'm working on posting new stuff next week. Winners so far are Anton for August and Bunter for September.

You should also have a booby prize for the worst manager of the month.
Then everybody can try dodge that one and laugh at the one that gets it.

Haaland not involved this week. That will put a few spokes in a few wheels.

At least it will give me a chance to bring one of my trusty substitutes off the bench for some match practice.

Well I didn't captain Haaland again which was dumb
I think he can keep the armband on from now on

Which worked well
Salah can have it again I guess

Put my armband on De Bruyne. A tasty 16 points from him in a 1-0 game

Have I been playing in a parallel universe................

9 people put Haaland on the field (6 of them gave him the armband!!), and it wasn't as though it was a last-minute decision not to play him, as it was there for all to see!
Still, gives me a chance to catch up. ?

Or were you all being good eggs and jolly good sports in letting people catch up?

Surely that's where the vice-captain and the substitutes come into their own. They might have made a last minute decision to play him, in which case, if I'd taken him out, I'd have been stymied. By playing him I cover either eventuality.

As it is, although my current gameweek score is only showing 26, I have a further 14 points to be added when my vice-captain's and substitute's scores come to be added. If I'd chosen my primary substitute better, it would have been even more.

But I thought if a player was already out when the matches started, you wouldn't get the credit of someone off the bench. That would only happen if the player was taken off after the match had started?

Whatever, I'm very happy with the way it went for me, leaving him on the bench.

If a player doesn't play at all then a sub comes in
and if they were captain then the Vice captain becomes Captain

If a player is taken off after a match has started then that's just tough luck no subs come in for that
only if a player doesn't feature at all

So whether Haaland owners benched him or played him it matters not one whit
unless your Vice captain didn't play then you have no captain

Yes it does - if you select a player (in my case Mitrović, who did f**k all, as it happens for one miserly point) who scores you points, when a player is kept on the bench because there is limited possibility of him playing, then you've gained those points!
Whereas, people who had Haaland on the field, scored f**k all, zilch, nothing have no points, and that's without factoring the captaincy.

Well, no, not really. Factoring in the probable absence of Haaland I put an attacking midfielder as first substitute. He scored three points. If he had happened to score or assist, he would of course have scored more points.

If I'd taken Haaland out and put my attacking midfielder in from the outset, the score would have been exactly the same. Only I was covering myself just in case Haaland played.

The one possible downside to including Haaland in my starting XI would have been if Man City had put Haaland on the bench and he came on for the last minute and did nothing. But I didn't think that was likely - he would either be out completely or he was fit enough to play. Still, you take that risk. That's all part of the game.

In fact it's sometimes quite fun to put non playing players in your team because of the autosub feature
as you get a nice points boost right at the very end

Not much for me, I'll just get one point from the subs bench
and another 7 points when Haalands armbrand transfers to my VC Salah

But as Bunter rightly points out it would have been exactly the same outcome had I benched Haaland I would have just got the points earlier

OK OK, can't quite follow you on that, but if I did manage, you are probably proving a point; BUT..............

I had Haaland on the bench, he didn't play, didn't score points, I've done the right thing. A Plus move.

The player I put on the pitch (Mitrović) scores me 1 point. A Plus move.

IF, I'd had Haaland on the field from the outset (as some managers did) I would have scored no points. A Minus move, and the people who did that ALSO got nil points.

In my eyes, I did the correct thing and they didn't - I don't see how you can read it any other way.

I am up on the deal and they are not. Forget the tactics of what if.

Except that if you had put Haaland in your starting XI and had Mitrovic as your sub, he would have come on for the absent Haaland and scored his one point just the same. Net total team score the same.

Anyway, let's not fall out over it...

Not really
but having Rashford was a good call
So you'll get more points than me this week
