He's right to go with his own name, changing it would confuse many and they'd be accused of being too stuffy and formal and aloof from the public again, this isn't something they want to go back to after all the loosening up of things after Princess Di's death. But there's an old superstition that another King Charles is a bad omen for the future of the monarchy, considering the turmoil the first two brought.
HM The Queen Page 3
People who were the age I am now when I was born (1953) had lived under six monarchs. Until yesterday I had only lived under one.

Thanyervermutch......................
Yes, very moving, but not sure I'd go out of my way to place a bunch of flowers somewhere - on the Beeb breakfast there were people who made a special trip to Buck House at 6.30 this morning!
Seems very odd to me for now, to hear them speak of King Charles, after 7 decades of The Queen.

The Farage twat did it.
Made sure he had a camera crew to record the momentous event.
Wonder if the card said "Sorry about f**king up you country"
I found watching the Paddignton Bear featuring the Queen today incredibly poignant. Bizarrely, I also found myself hoping that Paddignton was coping.
It does also feel weird having King Charles III.
Prince Charles finally gets a job .
Quote: Hercules Grytpype Thynne @ 8th September 2022, 11:34 PMCharles was destined to be George VII, in honour of his grandfather - this is what I'v read in many articles on royal traditions, over the years.
I've only previously read him linked to 'James'!
Quote: Hercules Grytpype Thynne @ 8th September 2022, 11:34 PMAnd I'm so pleased that he is going to be Charles III, which makes sense, if anything in homage to Charles II who was made king after Cromwell's family had their arses kicked.
?
Quote: Steve Sunshine @ 9th September 2022, 2:30 AMHe's been known famously as Charles for a long time
So it would have seemed odd for him in this day and age to change it, I'm not surprised
Yes, agreed. In this massively interconnected, 24/7 mass-media age it would have been very odd - and difficult - to impose a name change on someone so very well known.
Similarly: how long are we keeping up the pretence of Camilla as Queen 'Consort'?

Bound to be loads of books of Condolence too. Although I'm a great supporter of the Royal Family I really don't see the point and won't be adding to them.

I saw that for the first time today.

You must stop going off to Jupiter, you miss so much.
I think she was a game old bird, by getting involved AND so well. The James Bond skit was brilliant!! And her acting with Paddington was very professional - loved the mystery of what she carried in all those handbags over the years, being a marmalade sandwich.
RIP Your Majesty

I re-watched that yesterday.
And I remember watching at the time it happened, wondering if it would be some impersonator in the room of if they'd got Helen Mirren back for the skit or something, then she turns around and it's actually her, doing a skit with Daniel Craig. Brilliant moment.
In the immortal line from Round the Horne, I can hardly contain my indifference.

Surely the very fact that you felt sufficiently energised enough to open up a thread entitled "HM The Queen" and then to post a comment on that very thread indicates otherwise.
