I have to step in for Billy here, as the context (of the next US Pres) needed him to state him/her or him or her or vice versa for politically correct or at least courteous reasons, seeing as the vice pres is a woman and the current favourite to take over, as it's thought Biden won't run for a 2nd term. You really do live in an imaginary world don't you? Unless you mean TERFs, who do indeed fly off the handle when anyone mentions the use of the word them or they.
In that sentence, I was just pointing out that 'them' is a simple, easy way to cover both him and her. 'Him/her' always looks awkward to me.
