I've read different, funny that.
I read the news today oh boy! Page 2,385

Where?
Because I'm pretty sure he won.
Exit polls in France have never ever been wrong
Crawl back under your rock marine ...
Macron's got a job on his hands - but I wish him well.
Well, they say you get what you deserve and clearly the French deserve Macron for the next five years. Unfortunately they have also inflicted him on the rest of us.
Personally, I thought Nazanin would do a bit better seeing all she has been through in Iran.
But at least now the male members won't have to endure the terrible strain of looking at a woman leader's legs.
It's amusing to reflect on the French position. Plenty of remain voters have spent the last six years lamenting how racist Britain is, compared to the enlightened countries of the continent. Yet even in the darkest post-war years we never had Oswald Mosley running for, and a very serious contender to become, Prime Minister.
It is true that continental Europe has always had a somewhat worrying love of extremist figures, even if they are often only on the peripheries. Although I think Le Pen pushed a lot of that to the back this time to concentrate on talking about cats. and being more touchy-feely

Yes, she seems to have eschewed that coat somewhat, but it doesn't seem to be that far from the surface.
Of course, all such extremes get a massive boost from proportional representation.

I think there's a Nationalist streak - which can have it's base in, or lead to, racism - in many countries. Ours included.
The dubious end of the Vote Leave campaign played on it quite heavily.
In mainland Europe, with all it's history of wars and shifting borders, it's bound to be ever-present.
One of the reasons for the founding the EU n the first place was to try to dilute the effects of such Nationalism - peace in Europe being the aim.
True, Le Pen played down a lot of her original founding principals (including Frexit , which has been judged on the Continent to have not worked out well for us) in order to garner the 'dissatisfied ' vote.
I think if she'd got into power, the old Front National would have re-surfaced pretty sharpish- and Putin would have had a friend at the heart of Europe
I, for one, am pleased a Centrist party has triumphed over the hard-right.

I'm not sure he needs a(nother) 'friend' with the way the Germans are (still) carrying on.

I think they're dead scared of a fuel-cost crisis and the political effect, thereof.
Pretty poor show, though.
I don't disagree with any of this but have we actually been allowed to see the colour of her knickers?
If not, I would think any opinions with respect a trifle premature.

So what did WE do to deserve a PM who is a liar, a sexist womaniser and cheat, a bigot, a back stabber, someone who u-turns on his beliefs just to get power - and frankly an absolute prat and imbecile?
Well, I genuinely don't know about that one but I agree with the words and sentiment of it.
People have been thrown off course by my own legs in my time. I wasn't a natural man spreader but I taught myself to do it as I was sick and tired of male bosses opening their crutches towards me. That is where it mainly goes on. So I did it back and then they got furious and couldn't say why as it would have affected their pompous sense of power. That is, until report time when they got their own back and gave me a bad mark.
Also, to be honest, every time I meekly go up to the local shop in the summer to buy a jar of marmalade, I have about six blokes with builder's bum and double that number with their waist bands flashing off in various gardens and it could be read in any number of ways.
The normal one which I do is that this is just life and there is nothing in it. The other one is that they are virtually inflicting unwanted gay sex on me and so I should call the police and get them banged up for five years. But so far I have somehow managed not to have had my brain disturbed to that extent by the media's onslaught of propagandist and frankly insane paranoia. If only other people could say the same.
