They are hiding from the world I suppose.
I'm sure they both could have afforded more salubrious surroundings though.

According to Keith Richards, in his book "Life" that I'm currently reading, trips like this could actually happen if you are on the really hard stuff and/or are mixing it - very dangerous to do if you are on your own with no one to pull you back from the brink, such as flying like a bird from a great height.

Loved that Farside Cartoon Herc. For me he changed the face of modern cartooning and he became popular around the same time as "The Young Ones".
