Countless high up nazi officials desperately wanted to get rid of Hitler- virtually all were to gutless to attempt it

I suspect Putin is surrounded by the same yes men who wouldn't dare to even question his actions , let alone plot his removal from office

Its about the time line and the fact that the generals in Hitlers case were Wehrmacht. Basically professional soldiers competing with a Nazi Party ideology. The Nazis pointed at maps and gave ideas, the generals turned ideas into plans, good plans in the main.
But the party had reasoning that they could offer the populace such as bad treaties and living space and Anschluss etc so the army did well at first and Hitler gave the public what they wanted and it all worked well.
Putin has in the main turned Russia from a basket case owned by gangsters and given the average Russian a better quality of life in exchange for strong laws that all so cover political dissent . So gangsters and reporters got hit with the same truncheon. He also had wins against the Chechens and in Syria, he has delivered the people victories.

But now he has over stepped the mark, all of his cronies face ruin and he has nothing to offer his public. He used up all his best slogans setting the thing up 'Build the Wall' and 'Lock Her Up' in order to put his man in the White House, simple slogans that offered plausible outcomes that stops Mexicans stealing your job etc. I might not be true but it does sound like something you could benefit from.
Like them or loathe them 'Get Brexit Done' and 'Oven Ready Deal' took us out of Europe because it offered people something it created the notion of 'Better Things' and 'Fair Play' for people who felt cheated in many ways as there was and remains genuine grievances in many areas.
But going into a Cul De Sac War with 'Nazi Drug Addicts' as your slogan is piss poor weak as is his mentioning of Sweden and Finland, thats the mindset of a pure St Petesburger that will not resonate among the Muscovites.
So he is offering no one anything other on loss upon loss and no gains to be pointed at. Once Krushev lost the Cuban Missile crisis and ended up buying Canadian wheat, he was out . Gorbahov was under house arrest and Yeltsin was pushed out with a guarantee he wouldn't go to jail. They do get rid of their leaders as they all remember Stalin. So Putin could well get it in the neck from his own. And the sooner the better, the dream move is a press conference with solemn music stating that Putin dies in his sleep and the army have to come home to help with the mourning.

Germany's playing the long game by adding one billion to it's defence budget and attacking Russia's weakness - their Economy. A lot now depends on who sways China and India. They have the world's 2nd and 4th largest armies and 2nd and 6th largest economies. They both border Russia. Putin is very vulnerable long term. His war against Georgia lasted 12 days, let's hope this one's short.

...long after the event...

VERY long after.
I had the rare pleasure/honour of having the "SAS War Diaries 1941-1945" in my possession for a few days whilst working on a screenplay.
And even that was redacted.

One hundred billion.

Putin has put his nuclear forces on alert. I hope it's just brinksmanship, and I hope his generals would refuse any orders to launch.

I'm watching Sky news for the first time in a long time. They are giving brilliant coverage and can't lefty it up much, not like on here.

I'm now very pro GB News, which has improved enormously apart from getting that twank Eamonn Holmes on for the mid week breakfast slot.

Bricking it

Apparently Ukraine are talking about negotiating with Russia. If it comes to that Russia won't be prepared to back down on anything.

Never put much faith in a statement that begins "Apparently..."

If they don't use it as an opportunity to kill the Ukrainian president, they'll probably use it to stall while their troops are reinforced, resupplied, and their vehicles are refueled.

The fact that they have called a meeting that has a change of venue and all pre conditions dropped has to be a good sign. Plus the President would not attend the negotiations as a matter of curse. It would be emissaries that would relay the detail to the President and his advisers.
it could be a really good good sign as it doesn't look like Putins work more that of others who have at least been able to introduce the notion of talking at a stage were fighting looked like the only option.

What's to talk about?

Putin wants Ukraine to be fully a part of Russia - he believes it should never have even been allowed to split from Russia when the USSR collapsed

All this shit about them not being allowed in NATO is bollocks

He won't allow an independent Ukraine- end of

He wants it and that's that

The only hope is that he doesn't start cherry picking other ex soviet countries he fancies - or this will go on for years
