Is it the death throw of a dictator with no heir ? Or is it strategic with an exit strategy? If he takes Kiev it will escalate beyond the borders and we will see refugees across Europe.
I read the news today oh boy! Page 2,358
Quote: Lazzard @ 24th February 2022, 9:14 AMDaButt - you were right.
The f**kers gone in.
I couldn't see it going any other way. All the signs were there.
Yup.
I think my analysis was based more on hope than expectation.
What next, though?

Millions of refugees are expected to pour into Poland and Romania.
Russia (and the USSR) lived for decades with NATO on the other side of their border, but suddenly Ukraine is a grave threat to their security. If Putin succeeds in taking Ukraine, then the next "threat" will be Poland and the rest of the former USSR. Putin is a liar and a murderer - but what would one expect from a guy who murdered people with a nerve agent on British soil during peacetime? His threats of nuclear retaliation if anyone steps in to help Ukraine are especially chilling, since the United States and most of Europe are already "helping" by sending weapons and sharing intelligence. There's a serious danger of this spiraling into a regional conflict, and possibly WWIII.
Dangerous times lie ahead.
Who says that great jokes go out of date?
Cher knob'll fall out.
We loved that one in the 80s when wearing old baggy shorts with holes in them.
It's stood the test of time.

Exactly. It didn't need a genius.

Not at all a slight about anyone here, but if you're the poor bastard in charge of a country, you prepare for what you think might happen, not what you hope might happen.
I'm devastated and I hope things turn around for Ukraine and every other former Soviet republic who have only recently forgotten what it felt like to have Ivan's boot on their neck.
Tv reporters need to decide how they are going to pronounce Kiev.
Half say Kee-ev and the other Keev. Unless there are two similar places.
I have always been interested in Russian history and I have watched what has unfolded with both interest and sympathy for the Ukrainians.
And I have been very surprised that Putin has actually done what he has done, I like many saw it as standard brinkmanship etc.
But in the last day or so world leaders have let it out that in meetings with Putin he goes to extraordinary lengths to avoid Covid.
There is talk of a tunnel they had to walk down and get disinfected etc And that he has taken isolation way more serious than other leaders so much so that he may have become mentally unstable and the length of the table he is using in public clips seems to confirm this.
So I suspect that the resolution to this may lie in Russia as the people around him now have to depose him as he is a danger to the world. Who will do it and fill the vacuum is another matter entirely but I think the Russians will do it and all I hope is that they do it sooner rather than later.
I just hope its a political move were his seat goes to a vote. Rather than the generals as they have already let him go too far.
His generals know that if they oppose him, they quietly disappear. They'll acquiesce with anything he says.
I would guess that not only Russians but many nations, now have secret plans to do away with him.
The consequences of him escalating this war are too terrible to contemplate.
The lunatic has already said 'if you interfere, things will happen that have never happened in history.

Yes it's just been revealed that kee - ev, as most of us have been saying when Dynamo Kiev lose to Arsenal is actually the Russian pronunciation, so the Ukranian Keev has suddenly become more politically sensitive for journos to use.

Why is it Mumbai now? Why is it Beijing now? Why is it Keev now? We don't call it Deutschland!

Quote: Billy Bunter @ 16th September 2021, 4:28 PMOn that basis, of course, Paris would be pronounced Paree.
And if we went down that road we'd have to re-name Peking as Beijing, Calcutta as Kolkata and Bombay as Mumbai. And that would be just silly.
Yes.
I agree with several points here.
When the retinas detach inside the eyes of any bear, it is unlikely any time soon to be getting its ears syringed.
Sure, an apple tree in theory can bear many fruit but is it in an arboretum or a space capsule?
