I read the news today oh boy! Page 2,351

If your mask protects you, why worry if I don't wear one - you have the protective mask to save you from my ignorance.

Sadly, though, we aren't protected from your ignorance.
Masks - the ordinary type people wear to the shops, were NEVER about protecting yourself (they offer a modicum of protection, that's all).
What they do is significantly reduce the spread of the disease - in other words you are wearing them to protect others - the old, the vulnerable etc.
To not wear one in certain environments is a decision not to protect others.

I knew I'd winkle you out, the morally superior can't resist.
Your statement does not make any sense. So a mask doesn't protect you but protects others.
How so... the air you breath goes in and out, if there is a virus in that air it doesn't get trapped in the mask, you either suck it in or expel it.
The old and vulnerable can wear better masks if they wish or avoid crowds.
The only thing they stop are direct breathing in someones face which is a godsend for other things.

As I said, you wear one and all's well in the world but don't preach to me - that's the part you love.

Here's a drawing...

The CDC has finally admitted what most people already knew: cloth masks offer minimal protection against Covid. It's fairly obvious that nothing will prevent us from eventually catching it; vaccinations will lessen the severity, but that's about it.

I have rabidly pro-mask friends who essentially quarantined themselves at home for almost two years. They were vaccinated and boosted, so they decided to take the plunge and meet another vaccinated couple outdoors. They distanced, wore masks, and did everything they could. And one person got sick a couple of days later, and the other three followed.

This is an insidious disease, and the best we can do is get vaccinated and hope that when we eventually get it, that it turns out to be a mild case.

EDIT: The diagram posted above is honest, in that it shows that the virus still passes through masks. Even the N95's name indicates that it only stops 95% of the particles. Good, but not enough to stop transmission.

Which is what I said.
They do, however keep infection rates down - so there's less of the disease about thus reducing the likelihood of people getting it.
No-one has ever boasted 100% reduction in transmission

DA Butt have you not considered that they are not rabid just scared? I am and while I know the masks don't do much they make me feel a bit safer thats why I wear them and they're not even meant for that.

It's probably on the order of a single-digit reduction, at best. The infection rate in places with lockdowns, high vaccination rates, and mask mandates is within a few percent of places without those measures in place. Our politicians love to be seen "doing something" in a crisis, but they're aren't doing much good. Same old same old.

Self-preservation is our most basic instinct, so do whatever you feel is necessary. The problem comes with politicians forcing people to mask/quarantine. I don't care what anyone else does. I just don't want a government to force *me* to wear a mask if I choose not to do so.

It's probably on the order of .....

Why guess when the scientists know so much more about medicine than we do ? The UK has eradicated rabies and the world, small pox. 15.81 million dead, why not slow the spread down and stamp it out ? It also slows down the mutations.

UK Defence Secretary cuts holiday short because of situation in Ukraine.
Given the recent news and continued build-up of troops one has to question the decision to take a holiday in the first place.
Did he set off on Friday saying " It should be alright - what can happen in four days?"

The point was, if you want to wear a mask, knock yourself out. If that is what it takes to make you feel safe it's ok with me.
I wore one through the peak of the pandemic and while it was law and if I was asked.
But now, the morally superior are using the mask as a 'I care for my fellow human beings and you don't.

If your mask protects you, why worry if I don't wear one - you have the protective mask to save you from my ignorance.

Bleeding eck! How many times does it need to be said before it sinks in. The masks are not there to protect the person wearing one, they are there to protect other people from the person wearing one. COVID-19 has NO DISCERNABLE SYMPTOMS on many infected persons; they just become carriers.

Read-up on the history of Typhoid Mary!

Hands up all those who would be happy to have abdominal surgery (such as inflamed-appendix removal) by a surgical team who were not wearing surgical masks.

In my personal experience

The people who say "I ain't wearing a mask , screw that and nobody's gonna make me"

Are the sort of people who basically don't give a flying f**k about anybody else except themselves

Tossers basically

I wore a mask throughout but now no one but you superior people are.
Carry on.... and the jury is out on which side are the tossers

Stephen, why are you so convinced people are wearing masks purely to feel morally superior?
Can you not imagine a world where someone wears the masks because they want to, or feel they should?
There doesn't have to be a hidden woke agenda to everything.

I've already said that.
It's just a bonus for you - and being used. (one post above you)

My life is full and happy, thanks very much Steve.
It's a bonus I don't need or seek.
