John Majors speech today see's the return of the 'Statesman' I never rated him much but I do now as it wasn't an acidic assault. It was a clear and concise description of the current state of affairs within politics. A truly great speech that is much needed at this time.

Stephen I take it you never saw the speech? Just because you don't like the person and in this case I don't either. What he did give was a precise account of the level of lying and distrust in the current cabinet and how it is diluting our standards and our place on the world stage.
These are facts , not nice ones but he told the gods honest truth to the people and that sort of thing stopped dead once this Brexit nonsense started as we endure the 'Age of the liars'
I have reached the point now where once I see a post extolling the virtues of what is clearly a car crash Brexit I suspect that the poster is trying to tell me what I'm looking at rather than what I can see with my own two eyes.

The trouble with democracy is it's all about the next four or five years. Nothing long-term ever gets accomplished. Start something off, four or five years later it gets reversed. Something else is initiated; four or five years later that gets abandoned. And so we go on.
Not sure what the alternative is.
50 year terms of office.
We'd still have Ted Heath (though he would be 106)
I wouldn't put money on it not being a 50 year term with the state of the opposition.
