Speaking as a cartoonist, that'd be whingeing and drinking.

Are people reading too much into these things?I suspect the cartoonists took less time on them

Well.......... a sort of slurping noise.

Gives me a chance to quote my favourite McGill line "She's a nice girl - doesn't drink, doesn't smoke, and only swears when it slips out"

That's more like a puzzle than a joke.
Is one the bride and one the mother?
And... is the mother really Beavis (from Beavis and Butthead) in a dress?

The last one isn't a joke at all. After looking at lots of these postcards - many thanks as ever, Herc - the unrelenting humourless sexism gets very wearing.
