Surprisingly, the documentary, the Pistols and the above single were all from 1976.
Pretty sure the Hotrods only formed in '75.

Maybe but they were more pub rock R & B and then managed to break through when punk exploded.

For sure.
It was bands like The Kursals, Bees Make Honey, Feelgoods, Hotrods etc creating the pub rock scene, with it's more down to earth style, that inspired a lot of the punks.
People often say punk was a reaction to stadium rock, when it was actually pub rock that started the change.

For your amusement. Harmony before punk took off

These days I listen (too well known, - the level of the greatest):

Steely Dan "Can't Buy a Thrill". What an album!, paragon sounds of guitar and snare drum. Even with costly guitar processors (IR load and all) this guitar sound is unreachable.

I think the next one is even better 69.And the BEST :)
After that the stopped being a band and used session musicians.

Was Joe strummers first band part of that scene? 101ers

Sort of frantic rockabilly, I think.
Wouldn't say they was part of the 'core' pub rock scene, which was very much Canvey & Southend based.
They were playing pubs pre-punk, certainly.
The other strand, of course was Art School Rock - people like The Stranglers and Ian Dury who were going several years before punk.
Then there was the US strand - The Stooges, New York Dolls, Ramones...
Fascinating time, yer 70's

I think punk rock , as a thing - it was the Ramones and the Sex Pistols that sort of created it

Ramones initially with the fast, noisy two minute songs

And the Pistols with the whole attitude, fashion etc etc

But remember, Malcolm McLaren had dressed & promoted the New York Dolls a year earlier...
Or perhaps it goes further back...?
:D

They were still a leftover from glam rock really

Agreed. You could make a case for that.

Oh and they were shit too!

Yerse, but in the words of Sylvia Plath, who gives a f**k? They were all total and utter f**king shit, except the Pistols and Souxsie.
A while ago Glen Matlock did an acustic solo show out here and I ''''met'''' him afterwards. I love it when people meet a celeb for one sec and say, 'Seems really nice.' It's not long enough, as my mother said.
Mind you, a bunch of us waited for Johnny after a PIL gig and he just strode past and into his car without even looking. Maybe he was high, maybe it was a bad day, but left a nasty taste in the mouth, as my etc.
I once met Cameron Diaz. People say, Was it strange, suddenly face to face with this gorgeous, sexy, multi-millionaire megastar of world cinema?... Of course it was. But after the initial nerves, she calmed down. I'm just like everyone else, really.

Class.

Once again it shows to me that however much cleavage or bare chest is shown, animals - including people in animal suits - are just so much more alluring. I'd rather see that sort of thing any day than get an erection.
