My first pint cost 22p - that was in 1975 ( I was well underage, as was everyone else in the pub).
A pound note meant you could go out with 4 mates - get a round each and have a small chips on the way back.
I also remember when the 'designated driver' was the person who's turn it was to drive home roaring drunk.
I was stopped by the police at 2am blind drunk.
There were four of us in the car. Me and my mate were taking two young ladies home.
There was a roadblock and every car was being stopped.
They did not care about being drunk, the Yorkshire ripper had been at large too long and every driver and passenger was questioned. They searched my boot and found a hammer.
You'd think they'd found the ark of the covenant. At that time no one knew he used a hammer to kill and the cops were looking for a car with a hammer in it.
I had half the force around me roughing me up and firing questions.
Luckily, it was the wrong sort of hammer and they saw it was part of my toolkit.
I was allowed to go, still drunk but a bit more sober after that.
