Semi-Pro

Funny

not so much

Funny

I like Simon Mayo's description of this as Samey-Pro, referring to the fact that Will Ferrel tends to do an awful lot of these kind of films.

it's an absolute turd.

On the subject of Ferrel, I was arguing with a mate, the other day, about his Ron Burgundy character. I was insisting that Ferrel had loosely based the character on Alan Partridge, and my mate insisted he'd done no such thing. What do you all think?

I don't know what Alan Partridge is, was he a British news caster? I'm pretty sure though that Burgundy is basically a rehash of his Saturday Night Live impersonations of Robert Goulet. That's just the impression that I get.
It's too bad the guy keeps resorting to these movies. I think he has far more talent then this. Stranger Than Fiction was my favorite movie of that year and Melinda and Melinda was great too. I really liked some of these types of films like Talladega Nights I just think he has done so many that he's run his jokes thin.

Alan Partridge started life as a sports (I think?) reporter on a spoof news show. He then migrated through a number of different series', becoming a TV chat show host and then a far-from-successful radio presenter.

I think.

Not real though, not real in the slightest.

I can't believe you don't know Partridge. Many comedy fans consider him to be the funniest British sitcom character of all-time. Here's some short clips:

The first two are from back in '93 (I think), when he was the Sports reporter, on a spoof News show, called The Day Today, and the third clip is from a '97 episode of his own show, called I'm Alan Partridge, in which he went back to an obsessed fan's house.

Is that Partridge fans, or comedy fans in general?

Comedy fans. Wouldn't you agree?

I haven't seen Semi - Pro but I love Will Ferrall and want his comedy babies.

He does a lot of "samey" movies for a reason, they work! Wedding crashers, Old school, semi pro, night at the roxbury, Anchorman. All similar type characters (except maybe Anchorman and NATR) But he is a proven comedy actor, he knows his shit.

And I really can't wait to watch semi pro for that reason alone.
