I just watched him in The Plank.

I like Tommy Cooper.

"Our ice cream man was found lying on the floor of his van covered with hundreds and thousands. Police say that he topped himself."

That's a typical one.I think Tim Vine has carried on the tradition.

🙂 Ha ha, he was doing a lot of that the other night in a programme of his unseen material. I thought it was some of the best stuff I've seen him do, so not too sure why it hadn't been shown on TV here although a fair bit was from US TV shows so I presume there was some copyright issue preventing it. ?

It was revealed by a friend who had visited his home that he had a filing cabinet of his jokes for all subjects, that's Dodd/Monkhouse level dedication to his craft, and they were only a secondary part of his act! Although a member of the Magic Circle and actually very good magician, revealing how they were all done in his staple failed tricks act must have annoyed alot of fellow magicians.

Seen the bottle/glass trick many a time, and can't now stop seeing him deftly collecting more bottles from a supply behind the table, but nonetheless, if you ignore that it is still a very clever illusion.

Also surprised to see a previous version of him producing very large items from between his legs when he's wearing that baggy floor length "magic cape", as that was the trick he was later to do when he died on stage at Her Majesty's Theatre back in 1984, which I clearly remember seeing live.
