Second Thoughts

After recently watching Faith In The Future, I have now begun to watch its predecessor, Second Thoughts on ITV3. Whilst to me they don't appear to be as funny as Faith In The Future, they are certainly very watchable and humourous.

Does anyone else like this 1990s ITV sitcom?

Very long time since I've watched it (should crack the DVDs out again at some point), but I enjoyed it. Adapted from a Radio 4 sitcom of the same name.

Already given up on watching these they appear to be a bit too serious and romantic for my liking. Faith In The Future is much stronger.

I agree Faith in the Future is better but this was good, too. James Bolam was a bit smug as Bill but Belinda Laing as his ex wife was divine, sexy, bitchy bewitching. She certainly besotted Bill's boss played by the great Geoffrey Whitehead who most recently played Lucy's dad in Not Going Out. What a terrific (underrated?) comedy talent he is. And of course at the centre of everything is the lovely Lynda Bellingham now sadly gone. Yes, it's all bit middle-class, aren't-divorces-tiresome, aren't-young-folk-difficult. But it is also FUNNY and rather heart-warming.

I quite liked Second Thoughts it was a good series. But I thought it dragged on for way two long imo. This show shouldn't have lasted for more than 2 or 3 series IMO. I don't quite know if Faith and Bill was a couple that should was matched. They was fighting a lot sometimes I wished watching it'd be easier if they split up for good as I don't know if they was suited for each other. I didn't like Joe. Joe as a character annoyed me a little bit, thought he was lazy and bone idle and incredibly annoying.

Liza the golddigger played by Belinda Lang is one of my most hated characters ever in any sitcom, as I hated her, as she used people, tried to get in the way of Faith and Bill's relationship, only interesting in people for money, so she was a golddigger, and one of the biggest snobs I've ever seen in any series. Just an awful character, who I hated.

I liked Hannah, played by Julia Sawalha, I liked Hannah always loved it when she argued with Faith. I like James Bolam he was good in this, not as good as him in The Likely Lads, but he was good here. Overall a good sitcom, some things I didn't like and I think it lasted way too long. Your thoughts on this?

I loved Second Thoughts when I discovered it. I agree Faith in the Future was "better", mainly because, while it lacked favourite James Bolam, it also lacked Belinda Laing. Not Laing's strongest performance; too cartoonish. Linda Bellingham sadly died young but left us not just these but her turn as Helen in All Creatures (original) and the often-forgotten At Home with the Braithwaites.
