You must be joking, just 'cos the long hair and wear what you like decade hadn't started, it was hardly like seeing a string quartet at a vicar's tea party.
When Lennon let rip with "Twist and Shout" the place erupted with people having rave-ups in the aisles and girls screaming so loud and continuous, you could hardly hear what The Beatles were singing.

I know you advocate the 70s, but you missed a swinging fab 60s, a decade I'll never forget.

I think in the 70's the record companies allowed the artists more time in the studio to make LP
's and didn't pressure them for hit singles.Giving them time to be more creative.
