British Comedy Guide

Any good British comedies?

To keep a long story short, tonight my SO and I got into a huge fight. We are okay, at least as much as we can for now, but as he sleeps for an early day tomorrow I'd really like a pick me up. I think I've seen all the great American comedies out there (I'm a nut). Is there any good British ones? I have Netflix, Hulu and HBONow. Pretty much anything. You guys are the best, thanks for always being a great community of friends. :D

No they are all rubbish

I only ever watch all the great classic Australian sitcoms

Struth! :O

All British comedy is shit. That's what we're on these forums to talk about.

Never missed Let The Blood Run Free in the 90s.

What's an SO?

I thought it's a word overused by snowflakes and the Yoof of today.

I thought it's a word overused by snowflakes and the Yoof of today.

Australians have for decades been averse to using sensible terms such as "husband," "wife,", "boyfriend," and "girlfriend". Instead, they earnestly opt for emotionally sterile gender-neutral terms such as "partner" and "significant other". The latter being abbreviated to SO.

As for British comedy, you're wasting your time there. You should relish the covid-themed new series of Housos and watch repeats of Mother and Son.

Significant Other sounds like bollocks to me.

As for British Comedies I love the work of Graham Linehan - Father Ted, IT Crowd etc.

I thought it was sod off.
I like Father Ted. the IT Crowd not so consistent.

Have you ever perused the Cookd n Bombd forums, which has multiple, massive threads of frenzied jostling among posters to see who can spew the most vituperative bile at Linehan because he is deemed a pathetic, nasty transphobe? Linehan is the worst person on the planet, judging by the level of vitriol directed toward him there.

British Comedies I think you should watch. I'm not a fan of some of these on this list, but I figured these are the ones everyone should watch

Only Fools and Horses
Porridge
Blackadder
Dad's Army
Fawlty Towers
Father Ted
The Office
Extras
Open All Hours
Yes Minister/Yes Prime Minister
The Vicar of Dibley
One Foot In The Grave
Rising Damp
Reggie Perrin
Some Mothers Do Ave Em
One Foot In The Grave

Americans laugh at anything, only decent one is Frasier oh yes and Cheers, Friends just got silly and predictable, hate to admit that even Family Guy has gone stale and list its appeal. Again, I'd agree with Wheel but would add George and Mildred, Hancock's Half Hour, Man About The House and Citizen Smith. Most modern comedy is either too crass or woke to be any good apart from League of Gentlemen, Mighty Boosh is quite surreal and not everyone's cup of Darjeeling but on my DVD shelf.
