Today's Interesting Fact About Pop Music
Despite his reputation as the fourth Beatle, Ringo Starr managed a grand total of four compilation albums from 1975 onwards. Each track was personally selected and commented on by Starr, each track was specially remastered to fit current recording standards, and each track was total and utter f**king shit.

Quote: Michael Monkhouse @ 14th May 2020, 6:46 AMYes, Prefab Sprout have changed the innermost fabric of society. Not just a bunch of jumoed up, heads up their own jacksie, pseudo art school wankuz. How do they do it? What's their secret? I guess we'll never know.
The clue is in the title "From Langley Park to Memphis" which, if it had only reflected the Sprouts's home village, would simply have been called "From Witton Gilbert". But what with Witton Gilbert being close to the village of Langley Park and what with Sir Bobby Robson being from the village of Langley Park and football's Elvis and what with - no, three what withs are not needed here - that made a radical difference. That is, what with Sir Paddy McAloon being sophisticated music's Sir Bobby Robson and having literally a direct line to Elvis on the other side. You can find more about the Elvis connection in "Jordan The Comeback" which is also a better starting place for finding God than the Jehovah's Witnesses.
So far from being "a bunch of jumoed (sic) up, heads up their own jacksie, pseudo art school wankuz", they did in fact establish an entirely new ethos. Their post-modern leap towards, and in many respects creation of, the new realism combined Kierkegaard, Proust, Zola and Shearer with the cubist period of Elvis's daughter, Priscilla. And as the mines were closed, their charitable initiatives helped local pit folk to make an effective transition from coal to a PhD level of appreciation for Barbara Hepworth, a fluency in Mandarin Chinese and ultimately really brilliant jobs at Sports Directs's. Could they have been more "noir"? Peut-etre. But when the starling rests on the escritoire, it is always half past seven.
Thanks for clearing that one up.
