What are you listening to now? Page 1,356

And now for something completely different.
I just stumbled upon it and for a cover it's pretty good,I think.

Ah , found it! That was the post I was going to read when I had more time. You need to savour Radish's posts, not speed read them. Thanks, Radish! :)

First track reminded me a little of Mogwai. Are you into them jt? I'd imagine they're your cup of tea, but might be wrong, of course.

Ah yes - tis weird that, to be sure, as I speed write them. The lengthier ones take me about 35 seconds and the shorter ones only 42. I have seen a bit of live Mogwai very briefly as I was stopping off at one Glastonbury stage on the way to another. An acquired taste, no doubt, but very reasonable. You might be interested to know that their guitarist Stuart Braithwaite features on one of the albums of the year (so far). That's our "Return to Y'Hup: The World of Ivor Cutler".

When taken out on tour the CD involves a 20 strong indie and folk supergroup including Mr Braithwaite himself. It's a new kind of venture for him as most of his individual pieces with Mogwai last a splendidly Twitter-unfriendly half an hour. Ivor's stuff is much more succinct as in more "wjkz" and less "wjkzzzzzshwyzjjjjwlgrmmmmmdoodl". Rarely, less CAN be more!

A couple of thoughts here. I guess with hindsight that if Mr C did sit in a space other than his own (albeit unlikely) it would have been with, among others, the Incredible String Band (on whimsicality) and Sun Ra (who while he didn't claim as Ivor did to have come from a place called Y'Hup was, according to his own good self, born on Saturn, a contention I personally have never doubted). Over many years IC was given more sessions on the John Peel show than absolutely everyone other than The Fall although his career began much earlier as this following clip reveals. But was it ever on Family Favourites?

Broadcast on the BBC Light Programme (the forerunner pre 1967 to BBC Radio 2) in 1959.

My favourite cover version of a Cutler song is from 1999. I have already posted the new album version of "Women of the World" but I think Jim O'Rourke did it best 21 years ago because he turned it into the most magnificent musical round:

And welcome back Gordon.

You've spoilt us with them.
Although I would never want to hear the Billy Cotton Band Show ever again.

Thanks for reminding me of Jim O'Rourke

The distillers - ask the angels

I stuck it to the end.
No wonder I don't remember the 80's.

Although some of it's coming back.......

Laughing out loud

It wasn't a momentary lapse of taste. :)

Been going since 2007, but only a couple of EPs and singles.
