Apparently Ginger Baker is critically ill.

https://metro.co.uk/2019/09/26/iconic-cream-drummer-ginger-baker-critically-hospital-10810914/

Sad news, my friend, but all things considered, he has done rather well. If I get anywhere near 80 which I doubt, I will be delighted, I wasn't really there for Cream - a tad too early and I don't like doing that to folk as some young prig/ponce did that with me at the bus stop at golf when I spoke about a couple of my favourites and it almost ruined what had been a great day for me - but I say it as one who admits limits in knowledge while knowing GB is/was one of the true legends. I do have a deep respect for what other people like if I can see that he is a great and in music's history that is undoubted.

I can tell you exactly how this worked. Got in. Bus great. Ticket people nice. A Tory woman came up and personally greeted me and said I really hope you have a good time. She was an organiser. I'm a bit nervous. I get up a hill onto a seat. Geezers organising the event were going by on a buggy and they put their thumbs up and said "hey mate, you look really chilled". Spoke to a police bloke in shades who looked like he was preparing for a riot. He warmed when I said hello. Very friendly. I walked round the course alone all day. Got to the 16th hole and there was a tent. I thought I'll get a beer.

And the guy in front of me - Yorks or Lancs - orders 12 pints for his mates and then apologises and says "mate let me put you ahead of me". I was "thanks a lot" and he says "oh mate, your great reaction, it's boss". Then I get to the bus stop. I don't know the times so I ask a geezer and he is clearly relishing the role of telling everyone how much he knows. I get given the times. He's a Geordie. Normally I like them. I say my Dad was there in the war. I was there last year. One of my teams is Newcastle so I went to St James' Park. And he says he's Newcastle but it's crap now because of the southerners.

Obviously I agree that Mike Ashley ain't my cup of tea. So I say I first went there for Lindisfarne in '82 and he tuts. There's a statue there. No one with a pride in Toon and Alan Hull tuts. And I say "well, I also like Prefab" and he goes "oh f**k off, you are way older than me". Then he struts off and I watch his walk. It looks like he has a broom up his arse. I mean honestly you just know with people now. I reckon he was in banking or something. I should have got it when I first approached. He had his shirt ludicrously unbuttoned almost to his navel and not that I observed it much but I think my Grandad's chest looked younger when he was in his mid 70s and he was much less jaundiced. This twat was about 25.

So anyhow life moves on, don't it. :)

Lindisfarne could do absolutely everything.

Reality - as a teenager on trains between the south and the north :

Kings Cross Blues - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mIBQySERDL0

(Slightly clever people will spot here in the harmonica an allusion to the Benny Hill music - that is how I hear it)

Ethereal - adult "romance" with a harking back to magic childhood:

Dingly Dell - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iFRrCmlcWDM

And much more.

No wonder that any self respecting Geordie still reveres them and passes them down through better families:

England

I'll tell Sporty, Posh, Baby and Scary Baker. (Yes, I know that is not my joke. But I like it.)

Just missed them myself, but you know when to respect Legendary status. I was born in '69 and oddly enough, over the last four months or so,I have been enjoying the music from the First British Invasion (not including the Revolutionary War a'la 1775-83), which included Cream.

The music may have been a "Tad too early" for you, but it's worth a listen.

Update...
Just saw your follow up post. You obviously have a handle on the music of the time.
Cheers

A nice post.

Yep - born at the end of '62 and was writing the singles chart out - with no knowledge of albums - weekly at the age of seven so that puts it into context fully. I will investigate further on your advice.

Just saw that Wilco will be performing a song from their new album on Colbert's show tonight.

The bad news is that his other guests are Hillary and Chelsea Clinton. Guess I'll just download it and skip straight to the performance at the end.

I don't mind Wilco at all although you would not wish to know about their earlier closeness with Billy Bragg. "Lord" Bragg of Burton Bradstock, Dorset. His estate is mighty fine for a far left socialist. Me and a mate walked past it on a pleb 15 mile walk and we felt sorry for his hypocrisy. Still, what is a tiny bit of powerless, here today, gone tomorrow megaphone slab male, when the coast is so huge. I changed, not that I was ever quite "there". Half way to socialism. I watched him watch his kids climb a climbing wall at Glastonbury. Earlier I was on stage with him and Mancotal as buckets went round for strikers. I say on stage. No one was invited. We all climbed up there to see what an audience looks like. It looks like us. As a songwriter, he still works. Knock out the gross multi-millionaire status. He's great on pathos with a dictatorial leaning.

My friend is in the band and we don't discuss politics and nobody's feelings are hurt. ;)

I've become adept at divorcing my favorite bands from their politics. If I hadn't, I'd have a very meager collection of music.

That's fine.

I have qualified it in a way that it is genuine and I hope fair.

You have encouraged me (sorry) to inflict the best two songs of Bragg (imho) on you and both are tbh magnificent.

The wordy, sensitive songwriter, side of me was a big fan for a long time.

Still love the best songs.

I just detest the way these people go...........so arrogant and so full of double standards,. They should be in a two-bedroom bungalow, all else gone to charity,

I've gone right wing because of them in my middle age. I don't preach. I am in a two-bedroom bungalow and my money - little - will all be going to charity.

Tank Park Salute:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2jO82fkgmoI

(This is the best ever farewell Dad song.: I like that it is militaristic because that gives it a robust "man" quality. My best friend of 37 years - no one can accuse me of not trying hard on loyalty : it's longer than most bleeding relationships - is expecting his to go this week so it seems timely. In my useless way I am doing my best to support at a 30 mile distance. I think I found out on Sunday that the best way was not to try too hard and just to go on being me. Vote for a clown who can find a few right words.- I haven't had that feeling for a long time. A sense of appreciation. I somehow did it right. He regarded that and I think our bonds grew stronger with it. Not that it needs to be said but I still have about four of these blokes in my life. None have ever been sexual. There was a time when you could just be close mates and enjoy a genuine warm proper friendship. The modern world can go f**k itself. My Dad has dementia so he's gone-ish already, love him)

The Space Race Is Over:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LPRci2BFTMc

(This is pure me really as Dad and son - I know he is talking to his son but people underestimate the extent to which the space mission was THE moment of a certain generation's life - it was our WW2 not that it was an equal or we knew it. For better and worse, it absolutely affected the thinking on everything - in 200 years time very good historians will see this)

I've said the same thing about a thousand times in the last few years: practice what you preach and I'll give you plenty of respect. If you're a politician or celebrity who champions the cause of the downtrodden or attacks the wealthy, then live on $200,000 per year (I'm generous), donate the rest of your wealth to charity, and send your kids to a public school and I'll respect you. Carbon credits be damned, I'll just scoff if you fly a private jet to conference to lecture us about our carbon footprints.

Condolences to you and your friend. My father is in the early stages of dementia and it's devastating. I can still have perfectly lucid conversations about sports or whatever, but it kills me when he struggles to find a word and then tells me, "I have dementia." The anxiety must be overwhelming. It breaks my heart.

Yes, this is very nice stuff for which thank you and I always feel that whatever we say may help or at least link in with broader audiences.. I'm a wordy guy whose diagnosis is long term anxiety (most definitely not depression though it inevitably hovers) so a Dad with few words is tough plus worries about his impacts on my Mum who is a bit older and omg where does this all lead to? No siblings. No partner, No offspring. That's me. It's a big part of why I try to reach out on the net. But I've been lucky. The mates I have had - most of them crocked or dead at an early age : it's what makes me laugh darkly in the eras of AIDS as everyone who has fallen has been heterosexual - well, anyhow those of us who continue on (and I would have been everyone's last bet) stick together every two weeks or every three months. There's another three who are still standing and it's once a year. That's "me" family mate. All politics,. All types. I love 'em all. I have actually been in correspondence with a nice guy on this forum. There was some talk of mystery. It ain't really. I don't do women, I don't do men, On occasion I do myself. But I just ain't that physical. That whole area is way too medical for me. I relate to people as people, emotionally, verbally, spiritually, conceptually. I did try to change. I can't. It would be fake.

Anyhow:

I was on stage with Bragg and Mancotal. Who the f**k are Mancotal? Here, At a rough guess, 1989, aged 26, London.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y28HndVpKI4

(I absolutely detest Corbyn but I detested Blair and Blairites more and still do - if he destroys them and Lib Dems too, I'll hoot, I am prepared for my little house to come tumbling down if their wealth is reduced by 75% as a consequence : there is not one good thing that Blair ever did for me - not one - and extreme liberalism is now a total sadistic abomination. Johnson 2 out of 10. Everyone else 1 or 0 out of ten, It's gutting. The way they have all dragged our country down ) :)

Great liberal band with a great arch-liberal as frontman. Good to see you enjoying music by progressives.

Talking of the real Wilko I see that Mr Johnson is touring next year supported by the wonderful Mr Otway. I have to go.

Just found out that Barrie Masters, Eddie and the Hot Rods singer has died.

I detest all the 80's synth pop

But I've just discovered Replicas by Tubeway Army

Work of genius!
