A Rainy Afternoon at the Flicks

Odd highlight on the IMDb, being a photo of the sleeve of this DVD instead of a still from the film "Bob's Your Uncle" which is on this DVD and I mention elsewhere as being on TPTV this Sat morning

Claims to show a typical programme at the cinema, which includes newsreel etc. - the sort of thing the shows up in TPTV's "Glimpses" series....................some of which are dire!!

Had anyone bought it and can justify the cost? I see it was released a year ago and this Volume One seems to be it in the series, so price seems to have killed the release of any more (?)

See Amazon product listing

No idea what it's like but, assuming it's the same title (no photo shown) it's available at CEX for £6 + postage. Just one in stock.

Hmmm, thanks for that, but no thanks. Bit worried by the no picture and "1958" added to the title. Also, I don't think it says they actually have it in stock (?), only (it seems) what they buy at and sell at for that title. I know it says "In stock online", but all sounds a bit dodgy to me. :(

CEX is of course a reputable company with a presence on most major high streets. If the item you want is not available in a store near you, you can order it on line (for £1.50 postage). In this case the DVD in question is in their Kendal shop (which you can establish by putting in your postcode under "check stock in store" halfway down the page). I have bought several DVDs from them on-line including, only last week, Here's Harry for £6 (half the price of anywhere else).

For your info, here is exactly what the DVD contains (from the company that produced it): https://www.renownfilms.co.uk/product/a-rainy-afternoon-at-the-flicks/

The CeX title appears to be a film with a similar title, rather than the Renown box set that Hercules originally mentioned.

Their box sets don't necessarily follow on quickly; I would certainly expect a Volume Two at some point.

I'm not so sure. Searching all the usual sources there does not appear to be any film with that title. And on the cinemaparadiso.co.uk site, the DVD in question is clearly pictured with the same 1958 suffix: https://www.cinemaparadiso.co.uk/rentals/a-rainy-afternoon-at-the-flicks-vol1-232060.html

We'll need to send somebody to check out the CEX shop in Kendal to be sure.

I tend not to trust any of those kinds of things, personally - but a good spot! One of the titles included in the set is dated 1958, so it's not impossible.

Yes, it never ceases to amaze me at the lazy attitude people have when describing things, especially on eBay of course.
