Untrue.
The figure is closer to 28% (ONS Birth Summary 2017).
Again - EU proportion of that will be significantly lower.

Quote: Lazzard @ 24th August 2019, 11:32 AM1. Flood of unskilled Immigrants
The flood (what a horrible word, and tells us all we need to know, really) of immigrants isn't coming from the EU - that figure is falling dramatically. So Brexit Britain will look very similar to today - with maybe a few more brown, colonial faces to fill the jobs in the NHS and public services that will no longer be filled by EU members. When it comes to HOUSING, 74% of recent migrants live in private rented accommodation - thus are not a strain on the public housing sector, or on house prices. They also tend to live in 'denser' groups ie crowded - so take up less room than us Brits. Of course, the above figures are for all immigrants - and as has been previously stated the proportion of these that are EU immigrants is rapidly dwindling. So no Brexit Bonus there. Quite the opposite. Brits distaste for manual labour and learning how to build means that it will be harder to raise the stock of housing once the hard-working, mobile EU workforce is banished.
,
It's fallen because of Brexit only and the realisation that many of us don't want them here. Don't give a ff if that makes us look unfriendly, we've let them take our jobs, our homes, our NHS places, put our wages down and clog up our roads. People have had enough and think it's a flaming cheek we weren't consulted on it and are tired of being mugs - Enter Brexit. Cheers and applauds.
Them stuffing the private rented certainly does affect things, it puts rents up to the highest they ever been, way out of reach to many Brit couples or small families who don't actually want to live fifteen to a house. I counted 17 Romanians coming out of a rented small 3 bedroomed house in Slough one morning, They piled into two people carriers. Totally illegal but very common indeed. Even the legally occupied ones are living two families per flat, I've met them. That's the only way they can afford the rocketing rents.
Many Brits would take offence at that dislike of manual labour slur, some do yes, but they're usually the unemployable sort who'd rather be paid to sniff glue day. The ones that want work find it tough to compete with EU workers because EU workers have far lighter overheads, they share living spaces to make rent affordable and as a result can work on far less money. Brits are failing to pay their mortgages because they have to work for less because the rate's gone down.

OH-MY-GAWD! You are Alf Garnet and I claim my five pounds.
I'm just thinking: would it be appropriate at this stage of the discussion to post a musical video clip from Phoenix Nights?
At least you're honest, Alfred - that whole "it's not about immigration" mantra was just to make the more squeamish feel better about themselves.
The thing is, they found your button and they pressed it.
Now they've taken back control.
But don't expect that Brexit Dividend anytime soon - it's all going off-shore.
You've been mugged, mate.
I wouldn't say that Alf Garnet is more honest than say, Gina Miller or Ian Hislop. It's just who you want to believe, I guess.
I meant Alfred is at least honest in stating his reasons for wanting Brexit.
And I believe him - why would he lie?
Not that he's not honest, it's just getting dull hearing both Leaver's and Remainer's opinions.
Quote: chipolata @ 23rd August 2019, 6:46 AMHe was elected by the the European Parliament,
Not so, If they followed the EU rules he would have been proposed by the EU COUNCIL, which is all of the leaders of the 28 countries (in our case not directly elected (cf. Boris now PM voted in by only the members of the conservative party). I don't recall what happened that time, but this time around the council have proposed only a SINGLE CANDIDATE, so it's a take it or leave it vote by the EU Parliament not a real election. I thought single-candidate elections only happened in Banana Republics, but evidently that ain't so.
Quote: chipolata @ 23rd August 2019, 6:46 AMIt's fine to want Brexit, but make it for real reasons and not pie in the sky fantasy.
Indeed and that applies to you too.
Quote: Lazzard @ 23rd August 2019, 12:57 PMThe latter.
He has no beliefs, except " I should be Prime Minister".
Wasn't even sure which way to jump on the eve of the referendum - .
Those statement fit Corbyn the Vacillator better than they fit Boris.

Sadly I think that's the future. Two sides trapped in an endless war of attrition.
Ahem, may I remind you all of "Motivated Reasoning" No one wins an argument with facts.
And why anyone over the age of about 10 would believe anything a politician told them is a mystery to me.
They are like banks ,when they say they know what's good for you ,they really mean what's good for them.

That's why I stick to facts.
If it's opinions you're after....

Buckle up, no deal will keep it burning longer. Forcing one view over the other will never heal the rift. There is now an undeniable majority that believe no deal is not the best result and yet two of the worst party leaders we've ever seen are marching us over the cliff edge. The anger will only heighten when the inevitable economic pain is felt. Boris has already ordered in riot Police, he knows, but power is more important to him (and Corbyn). Power at any cost is self harming, history has proven that time and time again.
Quote: Firkin @ 25th August 2019, 10:10 AMBuckle up, no deal will keep it burning longer.
I don't see how.
A day of chaos? Several days of chaos? We'd have to give in, wouldn't we? There'd be no way to make new laws under those conditions? Emergency government or something like that, I think, anyway.
But remainer's opinion.
Quote: Briosaid @ 23rd August 2019, 11:08 PMYou still havent' given a good reason for us to leave. It's all little Englander 'we hate foreigners' shite. Stop blaming the EU. They weren't the numpties who wanted us to leave. It's the bastarding Tory Party. That's what It's all about. They don't give a damn about the country, only about their party and how much money they can make from this.
And why should we be a 'united country'? I'm sick of hearing about the WW2 spirit. Our parents and grandparents were united against a common enemy in those days. My father didn't risk his life on MTBs to help arses like f**king Boris and Rees-Mogg to make more money for themselves.
Where have I said anything about hating foreigners (except the Scotch)?
