Anti-TRUMP? Isn't every sane person? .

Yes.

Quote: Lazzard @ 4th August 2019, 10:38 PM

It's a waste of time arguing with these people.
We just need to make sure we don't end up as some pipsqueak slave to the US - importing their shit food and their shit values.
Stopping Brexit would a start

You're so right. I'm wasting my time on a numpty.

Instead of boasting to us about your high IQ, maybe you should post your latest psychiatric assessment.

I can happily report that my mental heath is quite fine, and I have never been under the care of any mental health practitioner. Fit as a fiddle!

Quote: Briosaid @ 4th August 2019, 10:42 PM

There's certainly something wrong with people who think it's fine to have constant mass killings in their country.

Yes, there is. And there's something wrong with people who attribute such feelings to someone who has never said anything of the sort.

Quote: Briosaid @ 4th August 2019, 10:42 PM

Even as I write this there's a news programme where people are horrified by how easy it is to buy guns in Wallmart.

Submit to a background check, answer questions about illegal drug use (including marijuana), answer questions about your mental health and criminal histories, pay your money and walk out with a new skeet-shooting shotgun. Easy peasy.

And by the way, Da Butt, the latest culprit is saying he abhors both democrats and republicans, so you talk shite.

250th mass shooting this year. Do you dare to compare Britain and Switzerland with that?

Quote: DaButt @ 4th August 2019, 10:50 PM

Wikipedia says Switzerland averages about about 10 per year.

And there's this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zug_massacre

A guy in France killed more people with a truck than any American shooter ever has. As you said, where there's a will there's a way...

Yes but trucks are for delivering goods and services

Guns are for killing living things

I can remember walking into a very respectable shop in Piccadilly, Manchester, where I put some money on the counter and walked out into the city centre with a brand-new shotgun and a box of cartridges.

No background checks, no questions about illegal drug use or mental health or criminal history, and I didn't have to show any ID.

And here's the best bit: I wasn't an adult.

It was some time ago, of course.

Why were you buying it?

Quote: Briosaid @ 4th August 2019, 11:14 PM

Why were you buying it?

For no reason whatsoever: it was a spur of the moment decision - I just fancied owning a shotgun.

I had absolutely no idea what I was going to do with it.

The only thing I ever shot with it was a Coca-Cola can, and it turned it into something resembling a very small metallic string vest!

That doesn't mean they weren't registered Democrats.

250th mass shooting this year.

Anti-gun groups like to play fast and loose with the numbers. The number of actual random, mass shootings is a tiny fraction of that. I'll bet they didn't mention that the overwhelming majority of those shootings were "regular" crimes committed by "regular" criminals: gang members, street thugs and drug dealers. I'll bet they didn't mention that close to zero percent of them were NRA members, either.

Piccadilly Manchester always reminds me of the Ken Goodwin joke...

Did you hear about the horse that died in Piccadilly?
A policeman was standing there for 10 minutes with his notebook until the Sergeant came along. "What are you waiting for?" says the sergeant.
"How do you spell Piccadilly?"

"er , er P I K ......"

"Oh just drag it round to Tib street"

MASS killings. Do you understand the word 'mass? Really, do you think it's fine for these innocent humans to die? Are they just collateral damage for you to tote a gun? No flannel, please. Give us a real answer.

Does that mean say they did it every Thursday evening?

You're getting things confused. First of all, that anti-gun website that says there have been 250 mass shootings defines them as anytime 4 or more people are shot. Please note that I said SHOT and not KILLED. There is a big distinction. For what it's worth, the FBI defines things differently: 4 or more people being KILLED. Under that criteria, we have about a dozen mass KILLINGS per year.

To summarize, no, we do not have 250+ mass killings per year. We have 250+ mass shootings per year, and the majority of them are gang/drug/crime related. A car drives past a group of gangsters and opens fire, perhaps killing one and wounding 4. That's where the figures come from. Lots of "street" shootings, and a handful of random mass shootings - but nowhere near 250.

I've never said such a thing. But I have said that new legislation will do nothing to stop our gun violence problem. The police chiefs investigating yesterday's shootings have said that there was nothing in the shooters' backgrounds that would have prevented them from legally purchasing firearms.

None so blind as those who will not see. Go back to Mars, Da Butt. Maybe you'll fit in there, though I doubt it.

As long as they understand reason and facts, I'll fit in just fine. ;)
