It's Cockney rhyming slang!

1. German band = hand.

2. Duke of Kent = rent.

3. Battlecruiser = boozer.

4. Bottle and glass = arse.

Thank you very much.

That was a brilliant connection puzzle.

I have to admit I've never heard of any of them, and yet again I couldn't get on Google 'cos someone was using it overtime. Whistling nnocently

Having now had a chance to look them up I see that the Duke of Kent has a more common slang meaning, but God forbid I repeat it on here!

I was watching an episode of The Sweeney the other day and a thief had stolen 100's of bottles of brandy.
To prove it was him they dusted every bottle for his finger prints .
On about bottle number 300 they found his prints on it.
Regan said - I knew he wouldn't be able to keep his thieving Germans off them.
I thought 'germans' don't know what that means.
I looked it up, hence the clues

You must have heard ' his bottle has gone' meaning his arse

Well done Rood. I would never have got that being up North. Mind you they call underpants grots around here or trolleys, but a cockney friend informs me that trolleys should mean trousers. Trousers are for wimps ! Good question Stephen.

Yep, we say trollies for trousers...and aris for arse...Aristotle...bottle etc.

Undercrackers in Coventry.

I'm too South London for this.

I get that York means fork, Ghandi means shandy and Henry means an eighth of dope, but where do the Dukes of Hazzard come in? Are they anything to do with the daft berk or was he a red herring (ablenkungsmanöver)?.:S

I suspect Sweeney writers knew/made up Germans= Hans= Hands.

Subsequently, somebody thought ' German Bands' (that common expression) was the derivation and ..,

berk

Has a very naughty background and I bet not many people who say it know what it means..................

Berk is short for Berkley..............Hunt.

I am assuming you are using the concept of naughtiness here as an excuse for yet another lowering of standards.
