What I remember is 'Tom Jones' which was a great film.and I 'd just studied it at university.
One of our best and my favourite actor, he brought films to life on his own, a proper actor with great presence. Did a lot of films and I don't think I've seen a bad one with him in. He chased Burton and O'Toole for number of Oscar noms without winning one, mainly because they're run by yanks!
A couple of little shown movies of his worth seeing are Charlie Bubbles which he directed as well and a creepy chiller Dead of Night where he plays an axe murderer, cracking little film I'm still looking for on DVD. Charlie Bubbles is on DVD as is Gumshoe, superb film noir spoof/tribute. So many great performances but if I had to pick his best I'd say Tom Jones. RIP Albert thanks for the classy entertainment.
I've reached the stage when I think he died too young! Oh, dear.

Your chances of finding it will, I think, be affected by the fact that it isn't called "Dead of Night": it's called "Night Must Fall".

That's what I meant Night Must Fall. Dead of Night's a much better known creepy film without Finney in it. I've forgotten if Wendy Craig gets it or not so I'll have to buy it if it's released. If I remember rightly it's shot in that lovely silverchrome or something B&W and a lot of it's shot in the dark.
Very sad news. Brilliant actor whose best work for me was from TV 20 years ago - "A Rather English Marriage" with Tom Courtenay and Joanna Lumley.
I transfered it to DVD at the time and have watched it a couple of times, thinking with it being a TV film it would never be available, but it is although expensive!

Yeah it's not Wendy Craig either is it. I've always been bad with names. Anyway thanks for the link it's available but it seems only as Region One. Been meaning to change my DVD player to Region free so might have to.

I don't know how much Gordon was being paid at the height of his career but I do know that, shortly before he stopped playing, Kevin Keegan joined Liverpool at a wage of £50 per week.

Linking it up with a recent RIP at the top of the page, which is best, his Hitler or Finney's Churchill? In fact which is the best Hitler and best Churchill portrayal out of the many of each of them? I find a lot of actors have gone to town on the fury playing Hitler, including Ganz, and left out the other side, which was his lethargy and laziness which was just as legendary as his temper. This was the man who slept in while D Day was happening. I think there's a lot of shade left to see in Hitler portrayals.

He was the goalkeeper when England won the World Cup. I guess you north of the border have never experienced anything like that.
