Just wondering if anyone knows who writes Lord Sugar's crappy jokes on The Apprentice and whether they get paid for it.

We have to view the jokes in context.
If he were a stand-up comedian, such jokes would ensure that his career was short-lived. The fact is, however, that he is not a stand-up comedian: he is a businessman addressing a group of subordinates.
In that context, I think his jokes are worth a smile from the would-be apprentices and the viewing audience.
He said on twitter they are not rehearsed or scripted....
