Newsjack Series 18 Page 7

Well done to those who got on. Nothing for me this time.

I've restarted the #newsjackrejects hashtag and dumped my ones on Twitter. Reading them back I'm not surprised they didn't get picked. Not my finest attempts :-/

Yes. One does not wish to be self-deprecating but better than mine with the ratatouille/veg thing, I think.

The 'self-deprecating' thing is healthy, i wrote that now famous line as a compliment to all us "Barry Cryers" (another famous quote from earlier doors)

I dunno if this is of any help to anyone...http://www.bbc.co.uk/ariel/32532275

This is also quite good, an interview with John Finnemore, although that 'open door' isn't very wide at the moment.

A very good show to start the series. Some excellent sketches and one-liners, particularly liked the "bounty" one. Only a couple of clunkers., in particular the "£6000 - value of bitcoin. £5000 - value of bitcoin" one was rubbish, being both very obvious and a direct copy of the "Theresa May popularity rating" number cruncher last series. Overall 8/10 - looking forward to next week.

BTW I've just started a "Newsjack Rejects - Spring 2018" thread in the "Critique" forum at this link -

See you over there!

Look forward to catching up with the show. That bitcoin line has already done the rounds (in similar forms) but fair play to who ever took a punt on it, it works very well as a numbers gag i reckon.

My variation on the bitcoin story/joke was:

$60BN : The amount of money lost as the cryptocurrency, Bitcoin, is devalued to $8000.
$0 : The actual amount, of actual money, which was actually lost.

Just found out my near miss was a sketch.

Post it in the NJ rejects thread so we can see exactly what is "nearly" good enough for the show!

Excellent. What was it on?

Just found out my near miss was a sketch.

that's awesome, use it as rocket fuel for next week!!!!!

congrats on a near miss, which is basically a hit in the realm of NJ

I really liked the one with with Kim Jong-un interrupting everyone's big occasions and I thought the way they brought it back later in the show was a great touch. But the actor playing him kept saying Kim Yong-un and it did my head in.

Sketch was on young people working as undertakers. Interestingly I asked to see the final draft and the only things which remained were my intro and the concept. The rest had been entirely rewritten.

Usually one to share in the rejects, but I occasionally submit elsewhere and will keep parts of it back for potential future use.

The biggest learning point for me is just how important the idea is. Even if your execution isn't to their liking, they'll run with the concept if it stands out enough.

I'm told it went down well (although can't take credit for that as the sketch was so different from my draft) and feel like the cutting was down to it not really being linked to current events. It was a spin on a newsbeat documentary which was being featured on the bbc website.

Feeling positive about next week and have two stories in mind to cover (last week I had literally nothing until about 10am).

Good luck everyone!

Thanks for that. Interesting.

News seems to be all a bit weird this week? Struggling my way through a script and trying to rinse an ending in the hope that it turns into an accidental triumph. There's some trippy oneliners floating around too. Caught up with the show...very good. My highlight was the Kim Jong un marchy sound and trumpeting (easily pleased), made him seem like something out of Lilliput (no offence Kimster if you're reading this).
