I'm going to put 100 on the nose. Oh sorry thought we were talking about bear baiting
Who bets on horses? £20 free Cheltenham bet... Page 3
Quote: Badge @ March 7, 2008, 12:21 AMSorry to disagree with Mark, but there is really no point whatsoever in backing either Kauto Star or Denman each way. Never bet each way unless the odds are at least 4/1 (absolute minimum - more likely 5/1 or better). You'd be better off backing both Kauto Star and Denman to win. Your outlay would be the same (2 bets) and your return is likely to be better.
Nice to talk to another racing fan.
I do agree with you. My comment there was just trying to say "if you definitely want a return on your money do an each way, it might not be even your stake back, but you will win". It was badly phrased though, sorry. Obviously the each way on the favourites in this race is not a wise bet from the point of view of making any hard profit (certainly not at 11/10) - but if you're just doing it for a bit of fun then it'd be ok I'd say.
I guess my problem is I'm on the other side of the rails (I'm a bookie for the Tote at the festivals) and thus not always looking at it from the viewpoint of the person placing the bet!
Quote: Badge @ March 7, 2008, 12:21 AMI'm not betting on the race cos it's just one to savour for me, but if forced my money would go on Kauto as reigning champ - but I wouldn't be surprised if Denman won, especially if it rains a lot. I'd be *amazed* if Exotic Dancer won, and moderately surprised if it was even placed. But racing's like comedy - all about opinions.
I favour Kauto, but Denman will probably win it. He's more steady and consistant.
As for Exotic Dancer, we'll see. Hopefully I can post here smugly on the 15th... but, yeah, with such a large field who knows!

So you're recommending losers !? Tut tut Mark, and i thought bookies were on our side!
Not the Tote. They're owned by the government, apparently!

Not for long... Gordon Brown is about to make a bit of pocket money by selling it off (probably to Gala-Coral)
Bloody privatisation - does the country own anything now? Even our prison services are farmed out to private companies.

Yeah, before I read about that in London Lite last night, I had no idea!

There's only one way to settle it - FIGHT!
Wanna bet?
There's only one way to win on the horses, sadly it involves spending time in the bookies with scores of mug punters who talk big, but win nothing.
Ray, you *know* that's me!!!!
it was me once.
For me a 'safe bet' is approaching the rear of a drunken horse.
This is too addictive, I must stop before I start losing real money! I haven't won anything big, but I'm going up and down in quids. But I am down to £5 from £20, I was meant to be saving it for Cheltenham, sorry Mark.
