Yoink!

I recently (well, today) read a script in the critique section, laughed like a twat, then realised I'd completely misunderstood the intention of the joke.

The sketch is by ajp (Young, Black and Sketchy) and is apparently a play on the word 'race'. I missed this point completely. By skimming over a crucial piece of dialogue I arrived at a totally different punchline than the one intended.

This means, without any fear of plagairism, I have come up at a joke all of my own. In fact, a series of recurring jokes.

Has anyone else experienced a similar phenomenon? Is there a name for it?

Yes. Luck. :)

:O

I have no idea why people misunderstand that sketch. I do do a sort of triple meaning on the word race but thats not too confusing is it?

P.S. Does that mean you're retracting you goodd sketch ajp comments Teary

No, it's just a different kind of joke is all. I have a soft spot for absurd humour and that's not what you've written. It's still a good gag in it's own right.

Good enough for me.

Just to point out I did incorporate the joke your thinking of deliberately its just very subtle and overshadowed.
