Auntie Minnie on Oh What A Beautiful Mourning, of course.

Spoiler Alert! I haven't got to that one yet. ;)

Er, is George Nightingale Steptoe in good health?

Watched another outstanding one last night - Pilgrims Progress, where Harold finally agrees to take Albert to have one last look at the killing fields of WW1.

Wilfrid Brambell was absolutely superb and when he started an argument and eventually a punch-up with an American and a Frenchman on board the plane over them being late in the war etc. I was in hysterics.

Brilliant.

Yeah I remember loving that one, that's a typical Galton & Simpson trope, not truly their own but made it their own by picking up British post war attitudes and humour better than anyone else or really applying them before anyone else like Croft & Perry could in Dad's Army which they rightly did. The Britishness of the writing from both above partnerships is enduringly tremendous.EnglandScotlandWales Sorry have to use all these as there's still no union jack here.:O:S

The Wales are not in it anyway, being the outcasts they are with the silly language they insist on nurturing while the rest of the world moves on.

Still wading through my box set and they are all gems, but tonight's was "A Star is Born" where Harold is convinced his future lies in becoming a film star via the local AmDram, but his father becomes the star turn purely by accident as they hold the rehearsals at Oil Drum Lane, and I only mention this one because of Wilfrid Brambell yet again turning in a superb comic performance.

When asked if he could do a posh accent (by the producer/writer Trevor Bannister) he does, but then says he can go one better and mimics this Sandhurst officer he met in the war, and this strangulated posh voice he effects had me in hysterics.

That man is soooooo funny. Brilliant!!

Who's seen Steve Coogan's Wilfred Bramble impersonation? Utterly brilliant.

Oh, What a Beautiful Mourning on Yesterday right now. One of the very best.

This is fantastic. Wasn't sure whether to put it here or in Rock Music thread. I killed myself laughing when I first heard it.

Just watching the Christmas specials. I had forgotten how good these specials are. They're a true classic and the 2nd Christmas special is up there as one of the best.

This sketch originally featured in BBC's "Christmas Night With the Stars" (1962), starring Harry H. Corbett and Wilfrid Brambell. Written by Ray Galton and Alan Simpson, the sketch is now missing from the archives, believed wiped. This is a spirited revival of the original, made with the kind permission of Galton and Simpson, and Tessa Le Bars Management. The sketch features as part of Hambledon Productions' UK Tour of "Christmas with Steptoe and Son" (2018-2021).
